A TiVo competitor? Wild.
Reasonably price too.
mild concerns re how many ads they inject into their UI.
I was disappointed Amazon didn't support/expand the FireTV Recast long.

Edit: not a "new" competitor,

Beware still waiting for an Apple TV app. Prior version doesn't work on gen 4. They promised this quarter so I'll give then another week.

The device worked great for me
Tuners are very good and were able to scan 5 more channels than all my TVs

Only issue that I think they can fix by update is that on my Samsung TV app sometimes a few channels are resized to a smaller size than covering the entire screen. A restart fixes it 99% of the time though. Ethernet connection worked better than wifi

Fyi, this is an ATSC 1.0 tuner, so 1080i or 720p signals only. As I started typing this I thought that's all there was OTA in my area, but I looked up and 5 of the 9 local stations are actually supposedly already running over ATSC 3.0, up to 4k resolution (wonder if sports would be broadcast at that quality?). In either case, this device seems neat it certainly isn't future proof like HD HomeRun Flex which for only ~$30 more promises ATSC 3.0, if such broadcasts ever come to your town.

Oh, ok, I stand corrected - misread the product info for the Duo Flex. You're correct, it's more than double in price for the ATSC 3.0. Also, thx for pointing out that HD HomeRuns require Guide subscription - while the Tablo doesn't; and the HD Homeruns don't seem to come with any built in storage.

So, in many ways the Tablo is a good value for anyone looking to do ATSC 1.0 with free Guide, to DVR OTA broadcasts to built-in storage and with the option of storage expansion.

4 tuner version is $140 on bby. Just replaced a fire tv recast and 3 fire sticks with the tablo 4 tuner version. Using it in conjunction with a roku ultra and 2 4k sticks. Seems to get a few more channels compared to recast and is a bit quicker. Ditched the recast due to lack of android support which tablo has.

I've tried various HDHomeRun products and fire recast and this Tablo just works so much better and smoother. One criticism I have is that there's no tizen support. I know people will say just get a fire stick or something, but there's a couple TVs I just can't be bothered to use two remotes for.

Tablo been around for over a decade. I've had one for almost a decade. Not a new competitor.

I think for most, this is the right product. I have the HDHomeRun and 3.0 channels offer little benefit and limited stability. Additionally, some channels are trying to encrypt 3.0, to limit devices. I think you have a good 10+ years before it all gets sorted out. Also, very few solutions offer free onboard dvr.

Interesting. I have two tivo otas with 3tb drives in each and love them. But think about switching to tablo or hdhomerun at some point. This two tuner is cheap enough to pickup and try...I have at least a spare antenna and multiple spare hard drives. I like the atsc3 of hdhomerun but not sure how much that'll really help at least for the next few years. Though I think there are some in our market.

I was seriously considering HDHomeRun didn't know this product exists, is this better than HDHomeRun? Just need it for OTA and nothing else.
