I also got Target to offer me $10. Just had to ask if there was anything they could do.
"How ever you have contacted me regarding this, and you're a valuable guest to us, I don't want to disappoint you at this moment, I'm going to process $10 off on the order / items for one time exception only for you."

Guess I'm valuable.
Contact them after placing the order or before? also shipping or pickup..
Or does that even matter .. what seem to matter is who you get
I must have been lucky (for once). After checking online and seeing that my local Target had 3 copies of RDR in stock, I stopped in, showed the checkout clerk my phone displaying nintendo.com's physical price and asked if they could price match it. He did it with no issues. Actually rang it up for me at $34 even.
And yes I know this game will probably continue to drop in price, and as a 2010 game it's probably not worth what I paid for it, but I've never played it before and didn't want to risk continue waiting for a sale only to have it go out of print. We're in the final months of the Switch. These physical copies can just disappear from store shelves on a whim, never to return.
Bought it from Target online for store pickup, chatted with them to price match, they told me that Nintendo.com is not eligible for price matching... then they price matched as a special exception since I'm a valuable guest 🤷 ♂️
I tried price matching Target to a price advertised at Staples, who they do list as an eligible store to match.
The rep in the online chat told me they couldn't match staples BECAUSE IT WAS A SALE PRICE.
I told him that was ridiculous. If it was REGULAR price, why would I need to match?? It would just be the regular standard price! There would be nothing to "match"! I asked him - What's the point of price matching if it excludes sales??
He told me he'd make a "special exception " for me since I'm a loyal customer.
Anyway, I wonder if they just use this "special exception" phrase to make people feel special?

I always find it hard to justify spending $30+ on games that 1-2 decades old that I've already played.
But I want to buy it....
I hear yah. I still have my ps3 copy. It is tempting to buy a new gen version of older games especially if the old game is disc form as you never know when disc rot happens…

Imagine worrying about disc rot.
