Bought the game and instantly hated it. It's one of those games that basically could be a lifestyle for someone, taking thousands of hours to learn and play, and watch boring cutscene after boring cutscene. I basically had to keep the 'x' button on autofire to skip the boring stuff. Then you basically just walk around talking to people, selecting from a list to pick the thing you want to say - when I'd really rather just be going Rambo and messing some stuff up. Granted, I am probably not the type of gamer this was intended for.

I'm not here to tell you that you are wrong, just you might want to try revisiting the game. I almost gave up on Witcher like you (and probably like you I just want Far Cry 3 with swords) however this game really opens up after you get through the initial exposition. And honestly if you do not listen to a word of dialogue you can still compete all the quests as the map markers and missions explain everything (which normally is just kill something, collect something, capture an outpost...Far Cry 3 LMAO). The game is 98% killing things, lots of story too if that is your thing. The main narrative is great but I could not have cared less about all the side stuff (why the banker is in his situation, who Geralt is boffing...don't care). I think this is the first epic-ish game I have every 100%'ed all side missions on.

Also all the nonsense the game tries to teach you about oils for your weapons, potions, etc is almost meaningless on normal difficulty. On higher difficulties it is a must to learn but that stuff is mostly nerfed at medium settings...which I think is really cool for someone like me who doesn't want to get a PdH in fake alchemy for a hack and slash RPG. Provides for many play styles.

Played all the Witcher games, if you've never played don't pass them up.
Almost as good as Skyrim.

I would say Witcher 3 is better than Skyrim. But it really depends on the type of game that you prefer.

Loved both, so many hours of play, currently playing Assassins Creed Origins, better late than never, my game backlog is excessive to say the least.
