Just saw these for $45 on Clearance. Local store (SE PA) had maybe 3 or 4.

This is less than half the price of a previous Frontpage deal:

NOTE: this is a 'pretty good' set as a starter. Admittedly it does have a lot of 'filler' bits. But, it's a great kit overall if you don't already have a ton of bits; AND, for $45, this is hard to beat even considering the fillers.
Pros:
- Good selection of sockets for a starter
- Case is decent, seems durable, and you can stack a drawer on top
- Latches into a VersaStack system if you have that
Cons:
- Lot of filler bits
- Very few 1/2" sockets
- Lot of wasted space inside the case
They are made in Taiwan and the quality
seems to be good.
NOTE: this is model # CMMT45305. There is also an updated kit model # CMMT45306, which is also on sale for $129. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that the newer kit has slimmer-head ratchets. This can be important but you'll have to decide if it's worth the extra expense. For $45 I couldn't pass up the kit in this post.

I had them scan this one as well as the CMMT45306 kit in case they both were $45 (they were on the same rack so it wasn't clear that they weren't both clearanced); CMMT45305 came up as $45, CMMT45306 as $129.

Website still shows $129 even when set to that store, but I think this is common behavior for Lowe's YMMV deals.

But like I suggested in the OP, I wouldn't recommend this kit for someone who already has a ton of tools. But for someone starting out who has like, no real tool kit -- or as a gift for someone like that -- I don't think you'll find a better deal than this.
