Build quality, higher end capacitors, better warranty, higher power, more inputs/outputs, more speakers, better room correction, better processing, and things like "Imax Enhanced", etc. Room correction seems to be a big thing on the forums these days and the best room correction is saved for the high end models.

Like a lot of things it's a quick improvement from super cheap to reasonable. After that you are paying for smaller and smaller improvements for a lot more money. As an engineer (not sound engineer mind you) I have always said the first 95% of perfection comes relatively cheap. That last 5% is really expensive. Yet some people are willing to pay a lot for that last 5%.
Release date was September 19, 2022.
I own one as well... certainly an SDer would know to wait for the inevitable sales to come around. I think this is the lowest it's been. (I bought at $399).
Right when COVID hit, the AVRs were a great price but I was apprehensive spending money at that time 🤔

This thing has been dirt cheap. I'm something wrong with this unit, or was it over-manufactured? I own it. Seems fine for an entry level system.

I m not able to figure out what entry level and more advanced AVR will differ in? ..I mean advanced audio / home theater user , if they use upto 7.2 channel and they got amazing speakers why would this avr not be good for them?...in other words what more value add in buying $900 7.2 AVR

This is a solid entry-level unit and I've never seen it cheaper. I was going to get this at $400 but got a deal on a refurbished AVR-X1700H instead with better room correction software (Audyssey XT) than the S970H's ("regular" Audyssey). Both units have the same number of channels (7.2).

The $900 price you mention can buy an X3800H on sale from Adorama which for starters offers 9.4 and even better room correction (Audyssey XT32). Those two items alone are significant upgrades, but at almost 3x the price. The two extra channels will absolutely be worth it to some people, but it wasn't worth it to me. If I were spending $900, I would buy the X3800H.

X2800H with 7.2 (EDIT: can't tell if Audyssey XT or XT32...) has gone as low as $500 at Adorama, but it's on backorder now so no sale prices on that unit until at least February 2024.

In for one! Hovered over this 970 the last two times here on SD and finally pulled the trigger.
Saved a few bucks with my procrastinating, so all good. Was almost ready to buy Onkyo 6050, but my preference is Denon.
Only piece of electronics that has died on me over the years was an Onkyo Stereo Receiver. Had that in the back of my mind

Makes sense...thank you , I was just more focusing on speakers system is main thing in quality ...may be I m wrong but if it does make so big difference in quality of sound by room correction ..then surely it is worth for some ppl
