Just an FYI for people who care about this sort of thing, Nova was purchased by a data analytics company about a year ago IIRC.

It seems like a lot of people aren't aware so I figured it's worth mentioning.

FYI, this app doesn't get many bug fixes. I finally switched off this launcher, as my phone would periodically tell me the app wasn't optimized for the version of Android, causing the keyboard to not work when using Nova's search functionality. Swiping out of the app drawer and trying again would fix it, but it was annoying enough that I've moved away from Nova. YMMV, otherwise it's very customizable.

I tried the latest Android launcher when I got my Pixel 7 Pro but it still didn't have the options I wanted. Mostly cramming the right number of icons on my home screen (not just in rows/columns but also in the diagonal spaces with groups of apps possible) with the widgets I wanted (search bar, minimalist weather forecast), and the ability to have swipe 1 direction for news and another for a month view of my calendar. There was a bug with the first Android 14 release but the December update fixed it. Best <$1 ever spent with the Play store. Not worried in the slightest about one more company analyzing my phone usage.

This is definitely the first time I've ever seen a launcher that used to be $8 now going for 50 cents being called a "money grab". 😂

Try Smart Launcher, I'm sold on it on my Galaxy phone. I can use all of the real estate on my home screen including all the margins, and just uniquely organize over 100apps on the home screen just 1 click away. Can make them very tiny especially for those that you're less likely to use. Also has a lot of other productivity features and looks nice. I'm using it over the andeoid 14 one ui 6.0 of samsung...kind of tempted to use the microsodt a windows launcher but I don't think I can beat this, maybe just for a fresh feeling one dayloke anothee guy said here

I'm looking at this but they sure as hell do a good job hiding the subscription price for the pro version. I think there's a $17 lifetime license, otherwise $3 or $4 a year?

Neo Launcher is a newer open-source alternative, and my personal favorite is Action Launcher.

That's what I thought too, and it's true from the Play Store, even if you are enrolled in Beta.

I am on A14 QPR2, and the build since 8.08b works fine. It does raise the question of why they are not publishing it to Play Store. Perhaps the new code does not meet PS standard?

FWIW for others, Pixel 8 Pro here (and before that 6a) and I've had zero issues with it on either phone. Not using the beta or anything, just the standard version and zero issues.

It's just a launcher (app menu and 'desktop' app picker [but NOT the notification shade]) and that sounds like something more akin to functionality at the OS level (or that you're looking to toggle from the notification shade?).

You might be able to make a custom shortcut or something, but other than that, I wouldn't think this app would have much to do with that type of functionality.

Lawnchair is not dead. I used it when I had a Samsung phone (I can't stand their stock launcher) and I found it to be the best among all stock-based launchers.

Can't comment on Neo Launcher, never heard about it before.

Using Pixel now so personally I have no need for a 3rd party launcher anymore.

UPD: I see Neo is not based on stock in terms of visual design. So not a direct competitor for Nova/Lawnchair.
