Ergonomically, the best position vertically is such that the center of the tv is at your eye level when seated. TVs have been really increasing in size lately, so if you take -- for instance, a 65-inch tv, and set it on top of this 24-inch high stand, you're looking at a tv-center 24+18 = 42 inches off the ground. This means if your eyes (when seated) are roughly 3.5 feet off the ground, you are in the most optimal position, ergonomically. Plenty of people like to higher up on the wall , or (gasp) above a fireplace still....but this far from ergonomically optimal. Do you though. That's the nice thing about having one's own place
Isn't MDF heavier than plywood? So being heavy might not be an indication of quality and being non-MDF.
I bought this a month ago and set my expectations low because its cheap to begin with. I can tell its cheap wood but its beautiful. Bought 2 of them and painted the wall black. It turned out great but don't set your expectations too high thinking you're getting real wood for the price. I would say though that the quality is little bit above your usual mainstays furniture.

This isn't the slickest deal I've ever seen on a TV stand, but I think the fluting on the front cabinet is really pretty. Also this TV stand is more versatile than most, as it can also be used as a console table. Overall rating of 4.5 / 5 stars.

Looks nice..debating

Material is wood. Should I assume it's MDF?

I would presume MDF, but then again it weighs 100 lbs. and reviewers claim it's sturdy, heavy, solid. So maybe not MDF? Confused

Isn't MDF heavier than plywood? So being heavy might not be an indication of quality and being non-MDF.

Sorry; I'm no expert on grades of wood! Peace

I posted the deal because I really like the style. (I'm over the farmhouse barn door TV stands.) This TV stand is nicer than the one I have at home.

MDF is an abbreviation for Medium Density Fiberboard and is more stable than particle board. Fiber board can vary depending on the size of the wood fibers and the pressure under which they're pressed when formed. High density fiberboard is extremely strong for the aforementioned reasons. In general, plywood is stronger than mdf but mdf is easier to cut, shape, and surface when it comes to mass produced furniture. For this purpose, plywood would be a much costlier material to use and its true benefit, strength, is really not necessary for a lightweight flat screen tv cabinet.

Since another commenter mentioned, "don't set your expectations too high thinking you're getting real wood for the price", let's talk about the surface versus the substrate. Lower quality furniture is surfaced with a permeable printed paper surface material. This means it is highly susceptible to moisture damage…even room humidity. A plastic, vinyl or polymer layer is added to the printed paper to reduce susceptibility to moisture and provide better wear. RTF or Rigid Thermofoil is nonporous and provides superior surface wearability but is much more costly than paper or vinyl print. Finally, wood veneer can be applied to fiberboard or plywood to provide a true wood surface. The wearability of veneer is determined by its thickness and finish.

Both fiberboard and plywood have advantages (and disadvantages) when compared to solid wood so, each material can be best depending on how it's used and how it's finished.
