Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 Moving Coil Cartridge is on sale for about $100-off. It's great cart for those with a moving coil phono preamp on their vinyl/record playing setup.

(And spare me the grumpy audiophile b/s about "this is too expensive" or "you're crazy for spending $xyz on anything more than $20" or "my cheap POS turntable sounds better" or "vinyl blah blah blah" - little tip: refrain from spending your own money on this if it bothers you that much)

Nice to see a quality cartridge posted here, but it's not a SD. Same price, $399, at most places — Music Direct, Crutchfield, Amazon, Audio Advisor, Elusive Disc, etc.

Post the links. Share the info.
I shared the info by listing the names of 5 other shops that have this cartridge at the same price, but OK. For anyone new to the internet, you go to one of those websites and type "Sumiko Blue Point no. 3". This is what you get if you follow these directions on the Audio Advisor site, for example: https://www.audioadvisor.com/subp3-high

Is low output version available for this price too? Answering my own question: yes it is.

Here is another one: Hana EL for $380 or this Sumiko?

I did the same thing - haha!
Not sure about your Hanna v Sumiko question. It's a good one. I'm kind of addicted to MC now and kind of want to buy one too!

I'm in the market for a cartridge but need some help if someone wouldn't mind

After Xmas, I am the proud new owner of a Technics SL1200

I need to purchase a cartridge & stylus and am looking for some advice. I spent too much time researching all this already but I'm still confused over the low output/high output, moving magnet/moving coils etc.

I'm using a Denon 3600 which the instruction manual says works with moving magnet cartridges. I previously had a Reloop 800 hooked up to it fine without any preamps or anything else. Could it be louder or clearer? Probably but it sounds good to me.

I moved the Numark CC-1 cartridge from the reloop over to the 1200 as a test and it seems to sound very good.

I guess I could just buy a second CC-1 because I want to use the reloop in another room but I'm willing to splurge on this and spend a bit more than the CC-1. I'd also like to take advantage of the technics included headshell. I do not plan to do any scratching or DJing. I am open to adding a preamp in the future if that would give me an even louder or clearler sound but i'm confused on if I even need that given my specific headunit with built in preamp

Nice! Congrats on the SL1200. They are great. I love those.

Likely, you'll want to use a moving magnet (MM) cartridge on that turntable. Something like a Ortofon Red or Blue, Audio Technica (the green one or higher at-95 something), or a Nagaoka 110/150. There's many others.

You might want to upgrade the phono preamp. I like the Schiit Mani - you'll see big improvements in sound.

Moving coil: with your turntable, I'd avoid this type. It could work with the right cartridge, but they are more expensive usually than moving magnet and you might not notice great sound improvements with that particular table.

I hope that helps.

Id go Ortofon 2m Blue, Nagaoka mp 110/150, Audio Technica 540ML. Out of those, Id pick the Audio Technica 540ML. Its a Micro Line stylus so it tracks INCREDIBLY well. In terms of sound, its fairly balanced. Prior to using this, I was using the Nagaoka MP110 for years.
