This seems like a pretty good deal overall. It's the cheapest I've seen for a new (non-refurbished) laptop with a 100w+ rtx 4060, decent screen, and decent processor. I'd personally say it slightly beats out the extremely popular previous $600 asus tuf f15 rtx 3060 latptop deal.
The screen on this laptop is a meaningful step above those of budget tier gaming laptops, which often are 250nits brightness and ~65% srgb coverage. At this price tier a 144hz 1080p 300nit screen with ~99% srgb coverage is quite competent, and should be decent for both gaming and content consumption. While the response times aren't exceptional compared to high refresh rate gaming monitors, they're more than sufficient for the average user. The exact panel is the AUO B156HAN15.H .
The i7-12700h is now two generations old, however it still is a more than sufficient at this price tier. Realistically speaking, with a full powered mobile rtx 4060 you'll still be primarily gpu bottle-necked the vast majority of the time in gaming. For basic web browsing and office productivity the 12700h is frankly overkill. If your primary use cases are significantly more cpu heavy, such as high res photo/video editing, code compiling, etc., then you're probably better off looking for a laptop with a higher end cpu. While the 12700h is technically 14 core (6p and 4e cores), low power limits (exacerbated by the thermal profile of this laptop) and the older architecture mean it will trail behind in multithreaded performance.
The nvidia rtx 4060 mobile gpu is the cheapest mobile nvidia option available with 8gb of vram, which is a critical threshold. Compared to the last gen 3060, the 4060 is only around 12% faster on average (which is a disappointing generational uplift), largely due to the lower core (cuda/tensor/rt) count and a cut down memory bus. However, the 4060 is significantly more power efficient (better thermals and battery life), has 8gb of vram instead of 6gb (which is a big deal), and supports dlss3 frame generation (situational, especially at this performance tier, but can provide a nice boost in visual smoothness when latency isn't a concern). Even for 1080p gaming, 8gb of vram is the minimum for acceptable performance in modern AAA games. Overall, the mobile 4060 in this laptop should be good for upper-midrange 1080p gaming and potentially some raytracing on better optimized games. The mobile rtx 4070, the next tier up, is around 20% faster in gaming, but the cheapest new 4070 laptops I've seen are around $980. Supporting both a mux switch and advanced optimus is an excellent feature for this price range. Advanced optimus allows you to get full gpu performance and g-sync without requiring a restart to switch to and from discrete gpu only mode.
16gb of ram is acceptable at this price tier, optimally you'd want 32gb but laptops often charge a ridiculous premium for 32gb of ram. This laptop has two sodimm ram slots, occupied by two 8gb ddr4 sticks. Ddr4 3200 is last gen midrange, and is obviously disappointing, but at this performance tier the actual discrepancy from ddr5 in gaming performance should be a few percentage points at most. On the plus side, 32gb kits of ddr4 sodimm ram are quite cheap nowadays.
This laptop comes with two pcie gen4 m.2 slots, one of which is occupied by a 512gb pcie gen4 ssd. A 512gb ssd is fairly normal for a laptop in this price tier, I would personally recommend adding in a 2tb ssd as they're fairly cheap nowadays and 512gb is very little space.
Networking and ports are also perfectly acceptable at this price tier. Wifi 6 is technically last gen, however the 6ghz band is pointless for most people. The 90wh battery adds a fair bit of heft to the laptop, however as a gaming laptop expect battery life to be rather poor.
On mobile platform, a 4070 is barely 10%~15% better than a 4060. They all have the same 8GB vrams. Most laptop brands charge around $100 for upgrading 4060 to 4070.
Both intel and amd are teeing up shipments of next gen pretty soon as its the easiest sales pitch to upgrade(buy new) a laptop after 3-5y, desktop will go upwards of 8y at least because of greedy gpu factor and next gen mobos getting ridiculous pricing as of late. My work laptop will upgrade in 2025ish its from 2020

Even more tempting than the TUF RTX4070 deal. SSD is cheap and can be easily upgraded.
(4070 + 1T SSD) - (4060 + 512 SSD) = $980 - $750
Even more tempting sure, but hardly available. 4070 deal is better for most people as they will have access to it brand new.
This one is of course an even better price but it seems quite limited. In my area only open box excellent and good are available, which aren't worth $30-50 savings but still solid prices.
Overall this F15 is very comparable to the A16 that's been on sale for the same price, only with a GPU that has slightly better performance (10%) and better features. The minor differences are no RGB on A16, but it has DDR5-4800 RAM. The WiFi is also probably better on this, and the screen is 144 instead of 165 which is easier to run.
The tradeoff is the battery life won't be impressive like the AMD variant, and the display bezel isn't as thin. Either way both are the best value gaming laptops this year, which is great for Asus.

Not everyone can afford mac. I use it for work because of ecosystem. My ipad, macbook, mac mini, and phone are all connected with icloud. Very convenient.
This seems like a pretty good laptop at this price point.
Passmark is more for benchmarks and isn't as representative of real in-game performance. Neither of you are correct. The 4070 is 15-20% faster than the 4060 based on Jarrod and NotebookCheck's in-game tests.
It's worth spending more for 4080 or simply saving on 4060 since there is no difference in VRAM between 4060 or 4070.
I'd only recommend it if they are very close in price. At $230 more for the 4070, I'd rather risk it on these open box models than pay 33% extra for 1/2 as much increase in performance.
