Even with all the hate this kit gets, at this price I don't know why someone would buy something like a Kreg Accu-cut instead. I have a Ridgid model and it's been a godsend for breaking down full sheets.

This is an awesome deal. It's a great saw for the home shop. It has its quirks and it's not the premium one.

The problem is that you need additional tracks to cut down 8ft sheet goods. They have never been available to buy separately. However, at this price you could buy two and have enough track along with a spare battery and saw.

Edit: Looks like they are available now for $79. Still might be a better deal to buy 2 saws for the extra track and spare battery.

140 bucks spent on a tool that you're not going to use because it doesn't work right is still 140 bucks wasted (sans the battery maybe).

That said, I have both this and the festool tc60 and while the festool was ready to use out of the box, the ryobi can be made to break down sheet goods just fine if you take a couple of hours to calibrate it, sand down edges on the track section so the saw doesn't get stuck on transitions, add a proper splinter guard, and buy an extra clamp. The biggest weakness in it is not the saw, but the non-standard tracks.

I think the hate it gets is either from tool snobs, or people that see this as a way to get into tracksaws for the first time and don't get the results they expect without really understanding why, so it ends up collecting dust on the back shelf.

I've not had any issues getting a hold of these - shipped to store.

Looks like a good parking lot break down saw. Has to be better than asking an associate to cut down for you to fit in car. Thanks OP

I totally agree… I just don't understand the expectation of premium quality/performance out of something that isn't priced to be so. It's like someone going into Harbor Freight and throwing a fit that their Pittsburgh wrench that they used a 30% coupon on isn't similar to Knipex.

I bought this saw earlier this year for the same price. This is my first track saw and overall I have regretted buying it. First direct tool outlet didn't send me the kit version so no battery or charger. I missed the 7 day return window and after an hour on the phone with them they said they couldnt do anything and hung up on me. Second there's just too much play in the rails to get a perfectly straight cut. The whole saw can rotate slightly no matter how tight you adjust it. This resulted in the rubber strip getting all chewed up and now it's very hard to align to your cut line properly.

Would not recommend purchasing this saw even at this price.

From reviews it seems this is only good for cutting down thin stock/plywood. It gets bogged down and loses accuracy with very long, hard, or thicker than 1.5" inch material.

I don't own this, just what I gathered from reviews. If you're just occasionally cutting down plywood, this seems like a good deal.

Oh yeah, if you're trying to use this for building a hardwood tabletop, it's not for you. Building cabinets though will do just fine. Most people would use this to break down 1/2 or 3/4 ply or other sheet goods. If you use clamps on both ends, it will cut an 8' sheet straight.

If Ryobi releases a v2 or v3, it'll definitely be worth buying. Their current hp brushless tools show they know how to revise things for the better. This is tempting, though

I think the issue is the saw doesn't perform the basic function of a track saw properly. It has play between the saw and track. That right there makes it worthless for any task besides rough cutting sheet goods, and I can do that with just a straight edge and any circular saw.

Premium feature would be great dust collections, perfect fits between tracks, power to cut through hardwoods, etc. I didn't expect any of that from this saw, but I sure as heck expected straight cuts at a minimum, and it failed at that.

I purchased the corded makita some years back, and I have to tell you, it was well worth the $450 I spent at the time...I use it mostly for doors and plywood....perhaps the battery version would be more convenient, since I am 100% cordless with everything else, however the horse power factor more than makes up for the cord..... anyway, my point.... there is none, just random thoughts..
