Seems like a good deal for a tri-band wifi kit.

Does any one have any experience with geek squad certified refurbished?

I bought open box sound bars, laptops and tablets from best buy without any issues. Wonder if it is the same for their certified refurbished products.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank Deadpoole

You can buy these new on ebay for around $85 each. People buy the costco 4 pack that's always cheap and sell the 1-2 units they don't use. Make sure the listing includes a power cord. There are a bunch that don't, and the wall wart for it isn't cheap.

Refurb might come with an antenna problem that geeksquad didn't test, that was the reason for the return.

I'll also save people a bit of time. The factory reset button on these is on the bottom, under a layer of really thick rubber that's unremovable. You have to push and hold the button through the rubber for 15 seconds to reset it without letting up on the pressure.

Thank you! Thankfully, Best Buy has a decent return policy.

Is there any way to test the antenna after getting it? Didn't realize these units have antenna problems.

Seems like it is still available. What are you seeing on your side?

It took me to "drops" and it wasn't in there. Then I searched for it and it only gave me new single ones. Below that there was a "most people look at" section or something and it was in there. Bought two. Crisis over.

Only 90 days warranty bought direct from BestBuy

If you buy through BestBuy via eBay you get the allstate 1 year warranty (typically a "reimbursement in case of failure" warranty, I think)

I'm still on the original Google WiFi 3-puck system with 300 MBPs Spectrum. I get about 250 MBps from the main unit and 100-150 MBps from the wirelessly connected secondary units. It's definitely underpowered for the connection to it, but it is very reliable.

I've considered upgrading to this, but the Dong Knows Tech review is NOT kind to it so I'll probably look elsewhere:

Had a similar Nest mesh set up from 2019-2021. At roughly 18 months, the network went into continued power cycling. Google ran diagnostics and told me the unit had a hardware failure they could not resolve. I was out of their 12 month warranty and was politely told I was SOL.

I wouldn't recommend this product line. It so far has been the only router/network to ever fail and it did so before two years.

This is probably the lowest grade WiFi 6E mesh set to date. Random disconnects, bloated home app you need to use to set it up, poor range, etc. There is a reason these are constantly on sale refurb and/or open box.

Been in IT for 5 years. Use this if you have a large home and you don't do gaming.

Any mesh system will have long latency as the data will have to travel from the main hub, to the secondary, and then your device.

Also most mesh systems are half duplex, so they can send or receive data but not both at the same time like a regular router would.

Take your phone and walk away from the router and see where the signal drops off. There are phone apps that measure wifi signal strength as well.

If you're 10' away and it drops down to a low signal or switches to 2.4GHz, you've got an issue.

Nothing specific to these routers. The antennas are just a piece of wire soldered to the main board. If the solder job was bad or the wire is shorted to something else, you'll have bad range.

Frequently a cause for return, when the new router has worse range/throughput than the old one. And something that flies right by "refurbishers", since the router works just fine. It just has bad range and they generally won't test for that.

I like Dong, but in this case I think he just had a hardon for google routers. And he seemed to be particularly upset by their use of "pro" on the product name.

He has a point about that. But I think they're perfectly fine routers. The people who want to change the retransmit timer from 45 to 47 hate them. But if you just want a plug and go solution, they're good enough at the price.
