Got 7 blinds in the house. They all close at night and open in the morning to bring in sunlight. You call it lazy, I call it efficient.

It's not laziness, it's convenience, and efficiency.

Do you walk or use a transportation?
Do you use the paper map or GPS navigation?
Do you wash dishes by hand or use dishwasher?
Do you cook food on fire or oven?
Do you chose stairs or elevator?
Do you use online search engine or library books?

It has nothing to do with laziness. It is a product that serves a purpose: make a task easier. It is no different than the tons of other smart/automated home products on the market.

Nothing to do with laziness. While I don't have these, I bought Third Reality Zigbee shades. In the summer when my illuminance sensor facing south detects a certain amount of sunlight (trial and error to find out how much heat comes from what lux rating) it will close my shades to help the house stay cooler. In the winter it does the opposite, when there is enough sunlight to actually help heat the house they open, otherwise they stay closed because they do have an insulation value.

All in all after 1.5 years I noticed a marked reduction in my energy costs. I expect that in the next year they will have paid for themselves in saved natural gas and electricity. All in, Ispent around $1200-$1500 USD for my shades.

I am not saying these have the same insulative effect but blocking or allowing direct sunlight will definitely save you money in the long run. Additionally, these have a much lower initial investment over buying full blown smart shades. In 2023, if you have the funds to do it, these are now a no brainer.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I purchased 4 of these a few months ago to help offset the darkness we were getting in our bedroom after having solar shades installed. That was a mistake. When installing and using these devices during the day the noise level is reasonable, but when they go off when you're sleeping expect to be woken up to the most annoying whirrrrrrrrring sound you've ever heard! For me it took about a minute to fully open our blinds, which is an eternity when being woken up at an early hour. "Silent Mode" makes it about 10% quieter, but makes it last about 50% longer, which I though was worse. I only installed this on one window, so I can't even imagine a chorus of them going off each and every morning. The company must know all of this because the return policy is the worst I've ever seen. We had to show that we updated the firmware and record a video of the device in action, and even then they only RMA'd us for the unopened devices. Do not purchase these devices if installing in a bedroom, and definitely understand the return policy before purchasing.

Stairs. But that's mostly because my mother taught me to body-shame myself.

If I need 6, any reason not to buy two 3-packs?

Do the hubs need to be in close proximity to the Switch bots?

There is nothing lazy about it. You are woefully uninformed and judging people as if you know what you're talling about. If you don't know just STFU.
Some people have very large windows and the blinds rods are hard to get too. Many will just leave them halfway up all the time.
It's not lazy.
It's not gross.
Get some damn perspective.

I feel better about not buying these now. I'll continue to open blinds manually just because I have something to prove to your mom.

Will these work if several of the twist-bits that tilt the blinds have broken? Is it likely to break them if they haven't? My blinds seem to be really fragile :\
