I'm partial to the Taiwanese soldering stations with digital read out and ceramic elements. This looks like a decent iron for most, and should be able to find new tips at hardware store.

The 70w version has a digital readout but isn't on sale. Why Nott use your IR temperature gun? Wouldn't that be more accurate anyway?
