I think it's 40 parts of gas to 1 part of oil. So (for ease) if it's 40oz gas then it has 1oz of oil mixed in. Adding 10oz of gas puts it at 50:1

since this is 110 oz total, I think it would mean it's about 97.55oz gas and 2.45oz oil (this gives a 39.8:1 ratio). Keeping the same 2.45oz of oil but having 122.55oz of gas makes it 50:1 so you would add 25oz of ethanol free gas to the existing liquid from the can

If you agree with the youtuber, how do you winterize your 2 stroke engines?

Small engine mechanic A is going to say keep the fuel mixture in the tank and run the engine once a month for 5 to 10 minutes in the brutal cold.

Small engine mechanic B is going to say that is a bad idea because the gasoline ethanol and other detergents will deterotiate the metering diaphragm in the carb. Run the tank dry.

Small engine mechanic A says that it is a bad idea because the metering diaphragm in the carb will actually be destroyed because it will become flaky like a dry leaf come spring.

So what do you do? I buy engieered fuel because it solves all the problems.

You'd be ok running a 40:1 on a 50:1 engine & vice versa

To make 50:1 from 40:1 wouldn't you need to add more oil not gasoline ? No pun intended , this is not meant to be insulting in any way.
Ratios at work here. Think of it as 1:1 ratio half and half so higher first number would be less of that item in the mix.

good deal on fuel you can store for years

https://www.lowes.com/pd/TRUFUEL-...1001859550
$5.92 for 110 oz. in my NJ store near Philadelphia. There were 2 locations for it, and each had the highly discounted label. One was in the primary fuel aisle. There were none left. The other location was in an aisle with Husqvarna tools and fuel. There's none left there now. The containers I got were from August 2023. Buy 4 or more and get another 50 cents off.

Much easier to clean or replace a spark plug every couple years than to clean or replace a gummed up carburetor
Neither. With fresh ethanol free fuel, I never have to clean or replace either that often. What DOES happen, is the bearings wear out prematurely if you run leaner than 40:1. No equipment can run leaner than 40:1 without this happening. The only reason to run 50:1 is to make the EPA happy (and pollute that ~20% less except then your 2 stroke equipment goes to a landfill and there's pollution making and shipping a new one).

In my experience with small engines, I've only ever had a problem overwintering (I'm in Michigan) them when I've kept pump gas in the tank. The ethanol from pump gas absorbs moisture from the air and this can corrode metal carburetor parts, damage rubber seals, and gum up internals of the fuel system. I've since switched to using 100% gasoline (commonly referred to as rec gas or recreational fuel) and have had ZERO problems, especially in 2 stroke systems like leaf blowers, weed eaters, post hole diggers that would normally be difficult to start the next spring. I'm sure I could get away with using pump gas throughout the year and then making sure each tank was recreational fuel before winter, but for as little gas I use each year, 20 gallons max, I don't see the point. I just use rec gas as it's usually $5/gallon when pump gas is about $3.50/gal.

5 year shelf life if unopened, 2 years after you open it. Looks like the manufacturing date is in 2023 on most of these, so they are fresh.

40:1 will work perfectly fine in place of 50:1 & vice versa (IF you had any concerns / are paranoid, using a 50:1 mix for a 40:1 engine MAY be questionable, but it wouldn't worry me).

40:1 just means slightly more oil, which shouldn't be an issue & will most likely help most 2cyl engines if anything.

No, the first number is the proportion of gas. So to increase it, add more gas.

What you do is run the tank dry then in several years, you replace the few-dollars metering diaphragm which takes about 3 minutes.

Not sure why so many people try to pretend this is an arduous dilemma. I've never bought engineered fuel and never will.

Yeah I just drive 4 miles up the road to the general store which has ethanol free gas pumps out front.
Fill up all my tanks for my small engines.
