Vipoutlet had these, refurbished, for 220 dollars with the 300 something watt power supply. I don't know how anyone could pay this much more…

Yeah, I can't say for sure, but HP usually has proprietary BS connectors, so that it's a pain if you want to upgrade…

Avoid. RX 6400 is weaksauce anyways.

Let's keep it real here. It was $227 8 months ago and sold out within 5 hours (only lasted that long because it was posted at 3 AM), with many orders cancelled without explanation.

If I may ask, where else are you going to get a current model entry level gaming desktop with discrete GPU for less than $400?

Pricing considerations have to be made; this won't hang with a $1000 gaming machine and we all know that. However, there are a lot of parents out there who want something decent for kiddos to game on without spending a small fortune, and the 5600G is respectable for that purpose. It's also a pretty capable modern spec desktop for office or home use, and selling off the RX 6400 would bring it below $300 with a nice set of specs for that price range. I know that lots of commenters here are serious gamers, and of course this isn't the box for you. Just understand that not everyone shares your specific computer needs or budget, and dumping on an inexpensive desktop with limited gaming capability isn't really helping anybody.

I got 2 refurb and one "used" from VIPOUTLET. It wasn't that hard to grab them.

If you have to go cheap for a low end "gaming" desktop, the only thing I don't like is the 8 GB of ram. Buy 16GB used from eBay to upgrade this and you'll be okay.

If the rx 6400 meets your requirements, it's very likely that the integrated graphics included in the 5600G will also meet your requirements. So if you buy this, the slick move is to immediately pull out the rx 6400 (and not replace it) and sell it for ~100-130 on ebay to someone with a computer that doesn't have integrated graphics and can accept only low power small cards like the rx 6400.

It's likely that there's no reasonable higher power slot-in replacement (due to proprietary parts, low power PSU, I don't know about this specific model but this is usually how it is) so if you need something more powerful than the 5600g graphics, I'd look elsewhere entirely instead of trying to make this work in a way it can't. But, this will work for some people.

The 'G' series Ryzens are equipped with video capabilities...why do they include a video card?

Because integrated graphics are not great for gaming. They are usually just for the basics, like web browsing or office tasks. However, the G series Ryzens tend to be more plentiful.

It became available throughout the months after posting, not just that day. I bought more than one. You just had to be patient.

Besides, computer prices go down over time.

I think most slick dealers are willing to wait to save a couple hundred dollars, for the same model, for when deals like that come along, again.

I'm not trying to be negative about your post. I just enjoy when people let me know about the best possible deal, even if the current one isn't too bad of a deal, because I'm willing to wait. Therefore, if I have ever known of a better deal, I try to share that when there are new deals posted, to contribute in the same way.

Thanks for posting.

It's all good and I appreciate you sharing. We're all here for the best possible deals, and you sharing that knowledge may save someone a ton of money. Postable deals with quantity can rarely touch the one-offs that occasionally pop up, and I have my favorite places for those too.

One advantage that a discrete GPU offers, in addition to the other response to your question, is that it has its own RAM for graphics processing. In a desktop with only 8GB RAM from the factory like this one, the difference in CPU and motherboard performance would likely be noticeable with graphics hogging large portions of the system RAM.

Nonetheless, DDR4 is so cheap now that I'd throw in another 8GB out of the box. Windows 11 seems to make 8GB a little marginal for multitasking.
