The recalled one has a much better fabric but a non-detachable battery on the top of the umbrella, which might be considered a fire hazard. That's why it was recalled. After that recall, all umbrellas use a very thin and cheap fabric, unfortunately.

Does it comes with a base or have to purchase separately? The base seems to be costlier.

Having the lighting integrated is a short-term nice-to-have, but a long-term sure-to-fail. Some sort of DIY lighting effort can't be that difficult, yes?
Pretty sure the batteries are likely replaceable in some form. That said, I've had the fire hazard model for probably about 3 years, usually I only hang out under the umbrella on patio at night a few hours. Every time I use it, it works.

These are very fragile and easily snap from little gust of wind. Have had to get new ones each year.
You must have received one far weaker then mine. I left mine up in a storm by accident one day, came home from work to a table that exploded and the umbrella laying on it's side, intact laughing about the tempered glass mess all over my patio. They are plenty durable if you do what you are supposed to, and put the umbrella down between uses.

Very good point since you can get cheap Leds and those really nice rechargeable battery banks. And if you didn't have a bright day or just wanted to use impromptu, you'd be able to use the power bank to power the lights and maybe even other USB devices like a radio or something.

What kinda of men would we be if we didn't have power cords running to our umbrellas? Haha.

Besides,im a bit confused why you'd use an umbrella to block the sun and then need leds to brighten it up again. If you wanted light, try not blocking out the sun in the first pace. Sad, I know. Lol.

I have one of the older models that has a recall. I like the Umbrella and opted not to go in for the recall and keep my fire hazard umbrella. Hasn't burned anything down yet. Smilie

The light under the umbrella lights up my ~18x18' or so enclosed patio nicely.
Same, I still have mine as well. It's red and I haven't seen a red one in Costco for a while. But maybe it's time to return for another one.

The lights are for evening / nights, or at least that's what I presume.

I have a few of these. Fabric has maintained it's color for multiple years now, but be aware, these are not waterproof. Rain will seep through. They provide decent shelter in a light rain though.

I never returned my recalled one and my house hasn't burned down. Anyone else keep there's?

When the sun goes down, and the party continues…. The led lights are awesome. Just leave the umbrella open and you have your own ambience lighting for the patio.

Interesting. I was trying to Google and find the previous price when I saw there is a recall in NY for them:

https://www.dhses.ny.gov/sunvilla...xclusively [ny.gov]

Anyways, they used to sell for $130-$160.

Could always just remove the battery permanently.

edit: 2023 model not affected by the recall:

https://sunvilla.com/pages/recall
I had the old one and all you did was unscrew the solar battery on top and they sent out a replacement.
