As an owner of both brands, I can say they're virtually identical in every way. There's absolutely no reason to spend more on the MTM version.
Thumbs up for ammo storage!
They are in NorCal 🤙 Saw them in store yesterday

These are YMMV. Stores around here haven't had them for months.

The Costco Reviews suggest these are good for storing everything else besides ammo... lol

Also, good luck finding these in Northern California... haha

I would suggest the MTM Case-Gard version called an AC4C. Much better quality and Made in the U.S.A.

Why wouldn't you want to store (not talking heavy duty transport) ammo in plastic? Genuine question. I have ammo stored in these exact boxes as well as old surplus metal legit ammo cans. Much of the ammo for over 10-15 years (rotating when possible).

I have quite a few of these. Good for ammo, gear, parts, cleaning supplies. Almost identical in build and quality to the MTM version, the greemade ones I have are also made in the USA. Individual boxes are similar in built to the tried-&-true Plano ammo cans. Fun fact: those same green Plano ammo boxes fit nicely in the carry sled.

I have a couple at home for dedicated parts/supplies for my guns, and a couple more I use for outdoor range days. I've even given away a few for gifts.

May pick up a couple more in case I ever start reloading. These things are great.

Also, my closest warehouse sold out of these about 2-3 months ago at $20, haven't been back since. They had them for most of 2023, fwiw.

Probably just a generalization, but if something is made of cheap metal it's probably more resilient to breaking under its own load versus something made of cheap plastic.
I could see that, also metal can withstand hot/cold cycles much better, as well as UV exposure, but if you ammo containers are facing that kind of hardship then your ammo is going to suffer either way.

I can't speak for stacking these ammo cans as I have only done so 2 high however they they are MUCH stronger than any of the normal plastic ammo cans you find at Harbor Freight or Amazon. You would be hard pressed to break these accidently or for them to be crushed with reasonable amounts of stacking. Even full to the brim with 5.56, 7.62, or 9mm (bulk) they do not seem bothered in the slightest by whatever weight you can store in them, The el cheapo cans from HF sometimes are hard to close with boxed ammo inside. I am not sure I would trust picking one of those up fully packed with loose ammo as they might fail. Also these seal MUCH better. Borderline watertight.

Yes, and twice the price, of course.
