Unless you want to pul out the micro SD card every time to review storage you can only use these hubs to view recordings on the app.
VMB4540 or VMB5000

From their site.
You can see the recordings stored on the local device only by connecting it to a PC. If you have a VMB4540 or VMB5000 SmartHub and you want to access the footage stored locally via the Arlo Secure app, you can do this thanks to the Direct Storage Access feature

Can I record 24/7 on the hub if I connect to solar panel or I need to have subscription for it?

I own both the older and newer cams. without. subscription, The old cams will save and be able to view records and download them for up to about 5 days.
The new cams don't record to library, so waste of money. Just a live feed view option. terrible user interface, slow application

Looks like Gen 3 is on their EOL in April so this 4 may get another year or so before they stop supporting it as well. Still a good deal if you understand that aspect.

I own six cams of various models from the pro to the pro 4. They have worked great for my needs for almost five years over two houses. I do pay the $11/month subscription but they have proven reliable across the property. (I run two hubs… front and back of house to help with range). Only major issue is they won't charge if external temp is below zero degrees, but even here in Alaska it gets above zero often enough for them to charge up.

I can also access all videos remotely via the hub either through app or ftp cloud, as well as local saved video to the hub itself. Again, everyone's needs are different but for my families it's been great. They help notify us when a bear or moose is roaming through the backyard such that the kids are aware

Arlo seems like a reputable company with high quality
I am disappointed with the software. The online forum is not designed well and staff do not monitor the forums. I admit though that the software has not been as buggy lately compared to a few months ago.

I tried submitting suggestions. Finally someone that had worked for them forwarded my suggestions. It took a few months for someone to acknowledge they received the suggestions.

They did implement one of my suggestions; I suggested they reduce the number of clicks necessary to delete a video. Now we click to get the menu then click to delete then click to confirm but we do not need to click on the message saying the video was deleted.

One thing I think would help is to reduce the clicks to just one for each video after viewing it. They can do that using a recycle bin; the name is not important, but something like what Windows and Tivos do. It has been nearly a year I think since I suggested that but they seem to have ignored that. Something else that would help is to be able to review at a higher speed.

It has been over a year since they developed new software; they seem to have merged the smartphone application and website application into one design but the new design is not logical.

The batteries for mine do charge slowly. For the model I have they claim a charge can last up to a year but a charge does not last that long for me, it seems to vary based on how much it needs to send to the server.

Holy crap I just realized this. I got two of the essential cameras for $24 each around BF and my subscription just ran out. Didn't realize that the recordings for those are not in the library. Yes you are correct, the older cameras still record just fine, but the two new cameras I have are basically "live only" now unless you purchase a subscription. I wanted to thank you for bringing this to my attention. There's so much crap written on the Arlo website that unless you really want to dig in, it's hard to navigate it all when you have an older system and trying to apply newer cameras to see what works, what doesn't, etc.

I've had the basic gen 1 cameras for 7 yrs. They are great with the basic monthly subscription for recording. I just bought a Eufy solar to test out. Im thinking of making the switch depending on battery life. the Eufy is definitely a nicer quality piece all around. But before I dive in, I want to test it.

You mean it won't save to the hub even if you have one?

Bought a bunch of these and ended up taking them back. App was so slow to show live video. Ended up replacing them with solar powered Eufy cams with hub. No subscription fees and much more responsive.

does that mean you can only view "live" events, and no way to watch stored events?
