I bought these and I live in N Texas….they did nothing to deter mosquitoes. The mosquitoes would be all over me and would actually land on this thing. Hate mosquitoes so much.

Not to tc, but these things don't work. The only reliable thing that has worked here in South Florida are Mosquito Dunks. Cheap, and effective.

Agreed. They used to work but I think they changed the formula several years ago.
The old formula caused issues to dogs.

I bought a thermacell product last summer for a camping trip in northern MN. That version connected to an isobutane gas canister.

A place I've been to several times in years past - this summer, the mosquitos were especially bad. Bad enough to require head nets over half the time.

I was surprised by how effective the thermacell was. You could definitely notice the difference. You do need to turn it on for a while for it to warm up and start emitting the vapor, and it's effectiveness dropped drastically with even a small breeze, which we mitigated somewhat by locating it upwind from us.

If i wasn't already convinced of its effectiveness, one morning, I fired it up under the tent vestibule - between the tent and surrounding rain fly. There were tons of mosquitos buzzing around, and after a few minutes they all just started dropping. So, it's coming on every trip going forward.

ymmv - maybe the mosquitos in Florida are built different. I was skeptical but after using it in some of the buggiest conditions I've experienced, I'm a believer.

Sounds like user error as your comparison doesn't make sense. Thermacell is a repellant, while "mosquito dunks" are an actual pesticide. You either eliminate standing water around your yard or treat it. Thermacell works to repel mosquitos in a small area like a porch/patio. It cannot be windy and you have to give it time to waft into the effective zone. My neighbors seem to be growing mosquitoes and these are the only thing that work in lieu of treating my yard with chemicals, when operated correctly.

I've been really happy with Dynatrap....not sure how it works around ultra heavy mosquito areas, but we've had it running for like 5 years 24/7 365 and rarely have mosquitos.

I might grab some of these for when we go camping.

Believe me, I've tried everything, from this product, to the zappers to the coils. This product by far is the least effective. The mosquitos are litterally feet away from it and not dying. For anyone on the fence, read the reviews on Lowes or Amazon. Don't take my word for it. My buying protocol is that anything with more than 10% 1 star review is a no go. I realized after buying this product that it was a waste of money and time.

No idea on this product but we have very little standing water in socal, or at least that i can control. It's possible my neighbors have standing water.

I'll give that a try I guess.

I also paid with a gift card and I didn't see a mention of me getting a refund via gift card on that cancellation email. I'll have to follow up with them on that I guess.
They will send you a new gift card in the mail, takes a couple of weeks

Anecdotally, I live in Texas and it works fine for me as long as there is no wind.

It basically needs to run for 15 minutes to create the dome. But if it's windy it never manages to create a dome so it ends up not being effective.

It does tend to work a bit if you are down wind.

Nice find. After seeing the refill hack videos I decided to get a couple. Green was a couple bucks more for me.
What is the hack.
