"Designed for use exclusively with Epson ink cartridge" means they've fixed the printer so that it ONLY works with Epson ink cartridges -- a move similar to slimy HP. In the US, it goes against the law, but Epson doesn't care.

Imagine a world where your Lexus car had to be refueled ONLY at Lexus gas stations at twice the price of non-Lexus stations and oil changes ONLY at Lexus oil change stations using Lexus Oil that is twice the price. Any other gas or fuel would render the car useless.

$99 is a great price, but we need to start speaking with our wallets against companies trying to monopolize. Now, if Epson ink were priced the same as generic, it wouldn't be an issue, but that is not the case.

In the long run, you're better off with the "ink-tank" style printers that you just refill with bottles of ink. No way to screw the consumer there. Of course, the printer costs a bit more up-front, but in the long term, you'll save tons more money.

Remanufactured cartridges are available for reasonable prices. While I don't disagree with your premise, the reality is that many printers would have a much higher starting price but much of that is deferred by their actuarial calculation of howm much they will make in ink. I've seen low quality cartridge ruin other printers. Any damage caused by using non-Epson inks or ink cartridges, or any ink delivery system other than the system built into the printer (for example, any bulk ink system), or non-Epson media. It's also not against the law. Seiko which owns Epson has won everyb lawsuit over patent infringement on their design. The law says they cannot void the warranty if a comparable product is used. Comparable not just in function but in quality. That's tough to prove in court from the consumer side as if it's too comparable it violate their patent. Catch-22. Personally I've had good luck with Brother printers and inexpensive inks I buy on Amazon. For this printer remanufactured cartridge on Amazon are as low as $35 for a wholeset rated at 1100 pages per cartridge 5% coverage black and 20% CMYK industry standard rating. A liitle over 3 cents a page for full color. For brand new Epson cartridges are $35 for standard capacity sets. I don't think this is anywhere near what HP or Canon charged whiich was really obscene.

I did find this on Amazon and I actually need one of these wide format. WF-7820.

$179.99 prints 11x17 (up to 13x19). With double sided printing and 2 page printing per page you can print a 4 page flyer on 1 sheet of paper.

Bought 1 and 5% off using Amazon Amex. I won't use it except for small print out when it doesn't pay to fire up my Ricoh 811DN-DL. It's high volume color laser, I use for making multipage booklets but it takes 10 minutes to first print. Need something where I only need a simple brochure maybe 50 a month. Also the Epson printers do not come starter cartridge, they are full.

Amen. Vote with your wallet. Gawd knows our "representatives" aren't going to represent us.

I had the predecessor model to this, the WF-3720. They would need to pay me 100 bucks to take another. Worst printer I've ever owned.

It used to be that you could refill these years ago. Then they went with the chipped cartridges you had to reset also. I had problems with my Epsons not working well with being refilled, they would clog and need a ton of head cleaning.

I have had a canon for 8 years and I've been refilling the Original Catridges since. I had even bought a set of after market clear refillable carts for it but never ended up using them.

Don't know if Canon is easy to work with today or not, but I always had issues with Epson.

Save your money and buy a brother laser printer. Best printer company out there. Dont pay the print Natzi that will force you to buy extra ink just to scan a document.
