I've had every Charge model since the 2+. The 5 sounds really good and this is the lowest I've ever seen it. Great bass even at low volume levels.

JBL has the best Bluetooth speakers you can buy. Worth the money. I have had 2 different gens of the extreme. Friends have had the flip and charge. I have put mine though some shit and it still runs perfectly.

The batteries on JBL portable speakers are designed to fail just out of warranty. Not recommended.
the batteries can fortunately be replaced pretty easily.

Can someone who actually owns one of these, answer a question?

I have a large patio on the back of my home, with a workshop about 20 yards away. We have setup a firepit and outdoor kitchen for parties. I was thinking of getting one of these for some occasional music while we are gathered outside on the weekends. I would like to know how loud these are and if it would pump out loud enough music to be heard throughout a backyard? If not, I'll look for something bigger, but was curious as to how loud or how far out you can hear this type of speaker. The money isn't the problem, I'm just scared to buy this or the newest model and then have it not be loud enough for gatherings in my backyard.
Get a JBL Extreme.

One step above this and I use it when I'm outside all the time. I've owned multiple generations of Charge and Flip but the Extreme is the only one I've been happy with outside.

I have the Xtreme 2. It's been in numerous pools lakes rivers and oceans. It's pretty indestructible. Bass blasting even underwater. The one thing I dislike about it is it uses a odd barrel connector that requires a AC/DC charging brick. I've made my own DC cable so I can charge it from a portable power station but it is just a pain not being able to charge from USB-C out of the box.
So the first thing I was happy to see about this is that it has USB-C. However it's exposed and only the USBA port is covered? I guess that means the speaker isn't waterproof.

I bought one of these (at full price; sigh) about a year and a half ago. Maybe I've gotten lucky but it's been great… no battery issues, no connection issues, no charging issues, etc.

I'm an audio guy, and the sound isn't amazing, but it's decent for the size. Easily fills a room when I'm out in the garage, sorting clothes in the bedroom, or anywhere else I don't have a permanent system.

Forgive my ignorance. What benefits does using WiFi give?

Had a JBL Charge 3, the battery didn't last very long (maybe a year and a half) before it started not keeping a charge at all. Even playing music through it while it was still plugged in, it would eventually just shut off.
I bought my Charge 3 back in 2018 and it's still going. Although it's obvious that the battery life has decreased, I still use it for a good 5 hours from fully charged to out of battery.

Apparently wi-fi version has better sound?

Wi-fi connection also offers better fidelity (supposedly)

This is not accurate. I have a charge 2 still working. Gave a friend a 3 for a birthday...still working. Obviously both of them have diminished battery life but still holding some charge. Also bought a Charge 5 model 1.5 years back...still holding a full charge.

More stable sound and longer range.
It would be interesting to know though if you can use it with the sonos environment. This would be like the Sonos Move at a way cheaper price.
Anybody know if this is possible?

Dumb comment. I have the original Xtreme, the Xtreme 2, Charge 3, and a Clip 3. No battery issues with any of them. Just got the Charge 5 as well.
