This box is pretty garbage, good for slumlord but I wouldn't use it in primary residence
Please provide a link to the box you use? Last time I checked the choices are PVC or Fiberglass.

And what is your issue with them exactly? Those are supposed to be for old work so in a situation where you need to add something or replace what is already in the wall. So you are not building a whole house using these.

What are you even talking about? It's a box that covers wires in a place it should never even get bumped. What is 'garbage' about these?

Is this regular depth or deeper?
Smart switches fit much better in the deeper boxes

This is 14 cu, the regular depth. For a smart switch you'll want the deeper 20 cu variety.

Plenty of metal boxes. Easier for drywall as well.

Plus you need them if you run conduit.
Please do enlighten us on how you run conduit inside an existing finished wall.

Just about every NEW home for over 35 years, including Multi million dollar homes, use NON metal boxes(unless a specific use and required).

Use a box which attaches to the framing and do the work of drywall cut/repair. This box has feeble little tabs that loosen with use.
