Found the My Arcade Atari Gamestation Pro for deep discount at my Costco for ~$30 in the Atlanta Metro yesterday evening. Reviews are mixed, but for the price you can load a ton of ROMs on this thing with a SD card.

It was in the seasonal blow-out area with the remaining video games and some toys, very much YMMV.

They released a patch that fixed almost all of the issues, and added extra emulation for more consoles.

My store sold out of these long before they could go on sale like this, I wonder if I went in with my receipt, if Costco would refund some of my money on to a Costco gift card or something. I only bought it about a week ago, right before Christmas.

I got mine before Christmas as well and it works great. I don't have any issues with the joysticks so I don't know where that is coming from. Super easy to add more games and no set-up required (unless you need to update the firmware).

People saying they don't like the joysticks are really saying "I couldn't care less about the atari nostalgia thing. I just want a cheap emulator with controllers I like". Just put emudeck on your pc or buy a cheap handheld with hdmi out like the rgxx

There's like 100 YouTube videos showing people that they can plug Xbox and PlayStation controllers into this thing and use them instead, so I think that some people are just looking for a reason to complain. And, apparently the new firmware they released makes the console work with even more controllers than it did at the start, you can remap buttons, and you can even set the stick sensitivity of the controllers that come with the console.

That was part of the gaming experience. The better player got the dud stick.

It doesn't need to be modded, you can just put roms on a micro SD card, and it will play them. And, if you download the newest firmware, they even added more consoles, like the Super NES, SEGA CD, and TurboGrafx 16/PC Engine to the list of consoles that it can emulate. It even emulates the vast majority of Arcade games released before the year 2000, as long as they are 2D, and can run on Mame.

the NES classic is considered quite nice… And the PlayStation classic is also pretty good, and is very moddable (software mod) with lots of games all the way up to PS1 console … so, NES, SNES…MAME…ETC

If you already have some kind of game controllers and don't mind a little diy, maybe consider searching for "diy retropie" or "diy batocera". Other folks may have better suggestions.
