Can confirm, I work IT support for a large retailer and the 7430 is one of the models we send our remote call support agents. They are absolute garbage, they overheat and freeze if the laptop is on a solid surface under light usage.

I had looked at this one before. This, and many of the dells in this price range, have lots of reviews about overheating, loud fan, and shutting down. Not sure what to do as I need a new laptop probably within a few months, and I love the dell warranty. Plus, have $120 back via amex until the end of Jan. (But even with a warranty, I don't want a computer that's got problems all the time, actually calling in tech repairs is a huge pita.)

Here are comments [reddit.com]about a model that I guess came out in 2022, don't know if things have improved?
"Literally unbelievable results within my company. Probably around 15-20% of all 7430's we have deployed end up having random shutdowns/reboots."

"worst worst Latitute 5430 and 7430. Coming from Gov org serving >10k it's a shame they bought Dell. Keys fading, dropping, keyboard faulty, display faulty, motherboard failing, docking fail, adaptor fail. We have like a few thousand RMA so far after less than 3-5months."

"Dont buy, used it for 9 months, overheating all the time for any task, even windows restart hits 100C. Got a brand new replacement, fresh windows install, 98C on restart… very bad thermal solution design"

Anyone here have experience with this model? I'd love to get it if it's not likely to have these problems.

What exact Processor your model had? Because that whole ddiscussion in reddit was for the 2021 model with 11th gen Processors. I have checkedd multiple reviews of this model and not aware of such problems mentioned on that discussion.

I don't know what you mean for sure by "what exact processor your model had;" I haven't got a 7430, I'm trying to decide if I should get one. The person asking the question in the thread I posted had a 2021 processor, but some of the answers were as recent as two months ago, and we don't know which processor they had, could easily be this model. I would love it if it weren't though. Reviewers who have just briefly used it to do a youtube haven't got as much time in using it, and many people in that thread are dealing with these laptops for a business that owns many, so they're seeing a good picture of performance. The question is whether it's the same gen processor, and if that makes a difference. I would love to get this if it's not riddled with the problems I've seen in reviews.

Thanks for replying, you're in a unique position to see performance of a large number of these. Do you happen to know if the ones your company uses have the 12th gen processor? And what 14" laptop would you recommend?

i saw this deal a couple of weeks ago and decided to go with the Lenovo Z13 Gen 1 instead. I got mine on eBay with 3 years warranty, similar speed ( AMD CPU ), and RAM for 610$
seems like there are a lot of issues with Dell latitude from xx20 to xx30 models. There are so many Reddit comments on random issues from computer shutdown to hardware failure. it seems like the quality has decreased since the pandemic and the build is not so good. I am a developer that works remotely a lot so I need something that won't break when I am on the road. I am currently using a Dell Latitude 5400 and the screen bezel is breaking off already . After all, Dell latitude is not mil-spec tested

Yeah, it really worries me. I have an Inspiron right now and have enjoyed it (in fact, most of my laptops have been Inspirons over the years), but I'm ready to replace it soon. Reviews on current Inspirons are not good at all. So I looked into spending a little more on the cheaper Latitudes, and those reviews aren't great, either. There have been Latitudes I've seen recommendations for, but they cost a lot more than this model.

They're really pushing out all these 11th gen and 12th gen intel's to make way for these "Ultra" models.

I have the i7-1270p version of this laptop and it runs VERY hot. The U cpu's should be better though. I also got some screen issues but they are going to replace the screen under the 3 year warranty.

well for $450 I am in for one. I am using AMEX offers $120 off $599, $40 off $200 and AMEX Platinum $200 credit. I read reddit posts and seemed the issues had been resolved. Hopefully I won't regret this, lol

I jumped on this, although was looking to get the 32GB version. I'll test it out once I get it and see how it. does against my workloads. Fun fact: Last time I bought a latitude was about 10 years ago, that laptop still runs to this day, a relative of mine uses to play chess online mainly Smilie. Cheers and happy 2024.
