I think you need to follow the Rewards link (at the top of the page on the one I'm seeing) and either sign in or "join for free."

I'm certainly not a cardholder for MF, and the deal just shows in cart.

Neat guitar.

Q: What do you like about the play ability of the LP type guitars when compared to Start type or others.

Is it more the bendable strings; due to shorter scale length?

Due to that what you started with?

The flatter (over more curved on any type guitar) fret board?

Looks?

Do you prefer heft? Anyone here own an LP under 7lbs?

Because of the humbuckers?

Or any other helpful LP info.

And who has a Strat and an LP; that they like and about the same amount. Could you shed more light on why they use one over the other and when?

Maybe take your own advice and buy the Monoprice model to find out for yourself Lol

I'm discovering I like the shorter scale. Three quarters of an inch doesn't sound like much, but I'm finding it's less work for my stocky fingers to fret strings properly with a shorter reach. Less string tension makes for easier playing, too. I find chords, especially Barre chords, easier on a 12" radius fretboard (or the 13.75 of this ESP). I like the different feel of strumming with a carved or beveled top.

Humbuckers in a Strat body sound quacky compared to the beefier sound of the same pickups in a LP/SG/PRS body. I have much friends who swear the mass of the LP body continues greatly to sustain. I don't hear it, but they're also not unique in feeling the way they do.

The guitars in the OP are heavier than a Strat (and my PRS SE Singlecut) but not crazy heavy. I'm guessing about 8 to 8.5 pounds. I'll put it on a scale later. I still remember the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Telecaster that weighed in at over 10 pounds! That pine body was crazy heavy. I don't like really heavy guitars but the OP guitar seems normal to me.

I've never recommend a MP LP. Don't believe everything you read. Not that LP's are bad. When I've said to look at DLX models it was in context of Strat and Tele types. And was clear they are too heavy for me. It is simply a stellar point a $110 (when sale) DLX model and where some include things like Ash wood, two point trem, special pickups, and stated pro setup included for about $40 more[WHAT?!], than classic models, totally then decimates the so called reason for over priced guitars like $500. As they have those very items in comparison. And while fine items they are, they are more an option than huge upgrade. Since the classic parts are not a problem whatsoever in the scientific comparison; then I have clearly recommended those instead. IMHO.

Now, if we found a $110 sale on a DLX model I fancy and it was under 7 lbs or so then I would be all over that. But that would not be a need for me; just a want. And as I also have said, I would sand the beak of the head stock. And in conclusion I have been crystal clear, I bought a $59.something, shipped/taxed eStratBay (No name; but Glarry ST match. I'm certain). It is truly awesome. Yes, I tweaked it to the hilt; but did not have to. And it plays like dream.

They are instruments… how and when they are used is dependent on what style you are playing and also the techniques you utilize.

There are no rules and everything is subjective. Additionally people are physically different. I am 6'6".. what I find ideal may not fit you.

I at the end of the day I think it's less of the type of guitar and more of the quality of the guitar… and obviously the most important component is the player.

My Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro IV (the OP guitar) weighs in at 9 pounds even. My PRS SE Singlecut is 7.5 pounds. My Firefly Tele is at 7.7 pounds.

If you're looking for a lightweight sort-of Les Paul thing, the PRS SE Singlecut or 245 might be what you want. I'll say my Singlecut's pickups are better than those on the OP guitar, but that guitar costs more new. (Used Singlecuts are a bargain right now. Lots of units on Reverb around the $400 mark.)

Good info, ideas and recommendations thank you.

Perhaps it's more bendable strings, mostly darker and particular tones (without devices and pup types can vary) and of course what you enjoy.

Oh yes, you could play any style on any other typical style guitar type. With good devices.

Also its nice to have multi guitars for every major type; but if a person set a perhaps 3 guitar limit then which 3 and there components gets complicated. Maybe selling one before replacing it can work well to prevent not practicing more. I'm not immune to the pull of GAS and I'm not sure if somewhat limited funds, to a point can actually help. LOL
