I have multiple Le Creuset pieces and across my family we have dozens. I have never experienced them being easy to clean, and in fact even though we (clearly) like the product the consensus amongst my family is that they are harder to clean than other brands. I occasionally even find regular cast iron easier to clean.

The $40 one you will find is either bare iron or cheaply made enamel coated iron.

Le Creuset and Staub are both made in France and are exceptional quality with a lifetime warranty. As close to BIFL as it gets for this sort of pan.

Lodge does make enamel coated cast iron for cheap, but it is made in China and of marginal quality. Lodge does make an enamel line made in the USA, but it is about 80% the price of Le Creuset or Staub.

The 7 1/2 Quart Signature Chef's Oven appears to be $299 at most retailers right now. Is that actually a sale price or is it pretty typical?

I got the larger 9 qt Traditional dutch oven around Thanksgiving at the outlet store for under $300 during a 35% off sale. Check the outlet store.

It's better quality cast iron. Easier to cook with and easier to clean. If you don't cook much, it wouldn't be worth it.
