I just bought the plus model and the screen is good. After buying and returning 3 laptops due to dark screens, including an HP with 300 nits, I find the Dell's screen quite bright. Perhaps because it is matte. The only downsize of these Inspiron is the shallow weird keyboard.

It might be an issue of personal taste and if you have the chance try one at a local store. The keys are hard, shallow, and with little key travel. For me it is not very comfortable to type in.

Find it so odd that Dell makes 16/17" laptops that don't have a numeric keypad. My wife's 15.6" Inspiron 5505 does and she needs a replacement, with same/larger screen size.

I like numeric keypads too. My current laptop lacks one, but the tradeoff is that this way, the keyboard is more centered with the screen and allows a more centered\ergonomic position for your arms and body. Eventually I'll just buy a nice external keyboard anyway.

400 nits (minimum) and up is a safe rule for brightness. There's a reason why MacBooks are so nice visually. They don't go cheap on the screen.

Note the AMD versions linked are 250nits and not touch screen.

They go cheap on SSD and RAM and is double the cost of this. These are probably up gradable too.
