Ok so if it costs another $30 a year in 35 years he can think about a new one while you may have spent $10,000 on new ones.

Hey you got me thinking. I pulled up the energyguide from a 2004 SBS Whirlpool (a 20 year old fridge) a new 2023 whirlpool SBS. So it seems the NEW fridge takes up more energy than the 20 year old one. Another lie foisted on the american public.

2004: 616 kWh. 25 cu ft
2023: 654 kWh. 20.6 (smaller ouch)

Not like the big boys like LG and Samsung have been knocking it out of the park with quality and reliability, or the avaiability of parts to fix their poorly engineered product for the inflated prices they charge for refrigerators. Increasing the warranty on this one to 5 years is only $90 more. I would hope I wouldn't need a repairman, but for the price I might be up for the challenge.
EDIT to add: I have a 20+ -year old white French door Whirlpool fridge with ice and water dispenser that I inherited with the house I purchased a little less than 2 years ago, and while I would like to upgrade to stainless, I'm extremely hesitant to replace because of the horror stories I seemingly constantly hear about the lack of reliability of modern refrigerators, and I know this one is still kicking after 20+ years, including nearly 2 years of me using with no problem (just have to replace the filter every 6 months when it prompts me to). So I'll probably stick with what I got and sit this one out.
Rebranded Hisense. Good luck finding repairmen.

Stay away from both. Samsung for sure.
Not sure what you mean. I have been with samsung and whirlpool products for yrs. Customer services are always good. One of my samsung TV has DSP chip problem and samsung service was fast and easy.

Just a heads up for anyone. This fridge is worth every penny. Great features, super quiet. $1100 for a fridge with a 5 year warranty? Great deal.

You should have 6. Costco is the only place I know of that starts their extended warranty after the manufacturer warranty. You should look into that to be sure.
