so an 8 man means 4 comfortable, a 4 man means 2, a 2 man means 1, and 1 means it's an umbrella with sides

The top is vented so it's a good summer and spring tent. I haven't tried it in winter time so I can't speak on that.
The tent bag it comes in is useless and you won't be able to pack it back in, buy a separate bag if you want to carry it around.
Get a tarp to protect the bottom from dirt and water. It comes with tent spikes but I would recommend a few more to tie the tarp and tent down more securely.
It says it fits 8 people but that is a tight squeeze and not the most comfortable. I would only recommend about 4 adults tops for comfort. Anymore and you will sleeping side by side and stepping on each other to exit the tent.
