what do you guys do after 3m or 6m? port out to another carrier or just pay the higher price?
Google Voice. I've had the same number (tied to my Google account) for like 15 years. So when these deals come around, I never have to worry about when it ends and porting. I can use any MVNO with my Google Voice setup. I just buy whatever is the best deal at the time.
We've been with mint for many years. Yesterday we received an email telling us our Oneplus 6 phone would no longer work on their network because they are eliminating 2g and going with only 4g and 5g. Email from Mint stated:
Our network is constantly evolving & improving to meet the needs of our subscribers with better voice quality, faster data speeds and stronger overall coverage. As a result, our 2G network will be decommissioned to make room for the newest & fastest bandwidths on April 2, 2024.
Our 5G·4G LTE network offers a noticeably better wireless experience and is already available to you at no additional cost, but your OnePlus 6 isn't compatible with it. This means you'll have to upgrade to stay connected. You don't need the latest model, just one that's compatible with our network.
An example 30 gig for the year for $40. The nice thing it is one big pool so you can decide in the year when you want to use the data its not metered per month. Most likely it will be a TMO network.
Now these are are data only but you can sign up for a google voice number or use your favorite app like whatapp etc to make calls no problem. GV will run over data or wifi no problem, however it won't get priority like a voice call. A side benefit of GV is that you can port till the cows come home and never need to worry about losing the number. You just point it at the device or new ported carrier #. e911 will still get priority.

Do you use the GV to port number in and then reacquire the GV number when term ends?
wait.. this $15/month special is good for 12 month plans as well?
then it's a no brainer to get the unlimited for $15/month for a year.
No. The promo is only for 3 months even if you choose 12 months plan (the remaining 9 month will be at regular price). I was referring to the regular prices not the promo.
Edit: I think the promo is only for 3 months tier.

No. The way Google Voice works, it's basically a VOIP phone number. You can use it with either cellular minutes or cellular data via the Google Voice app or through a browser. So you just get a Google voice number (it may be possible to port your current number to Google Voice), and then you use that as your main phone number. That way, it doesn't matter what cell plan you have, your number always stays the same. When people call or text me, they are using my Google Voice number. It's been that way for 15+ years.
i hate that on mint mobile site they do these extra charges it ends up being $10 to $15 more than buying at best buy and target. i guess i have to wait for bestbuy sale
I was about to switch to Mint but found the deal has expired on Jan. 1st....
For a limited time??? I literally did this repeatedly for all of 2019 and half of 2020. And everytime I check their site, they're offering 3 months for $15 per month.
