Yup, this was $749 for the weeks leading up to Christmas.
It's $749 right now.

Shoot, I just bought the M1 for $750 now this M2 comes up for $900.. is it worth the $150 extra?? Same screen size, same specs, only difference is better CPU..

had the 8gb 256 model and it got slow within 2 months... the blanket statements that apple consumers echo, "apple silicon only needs 8GB !" are so moronic. prob ppl with higher specs than the base 8GB 256 model. even the 512GB soldered storage makes a huge diff bc of how shit the 256GB is.. it's literally half the speed. $200 for 8GB more RAM ! what a steal ! $200 for +256GB of storage ! what value ! both these cost like $20

I have a 13" Macbook Air from 2013 that has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD. Sad how little has changed in the last 10 years.

Unless you are a power user, like video/photo/sound editing, 8 GB is more than sufficient with Mac OS. Power users should look at the Pro and not look back.
Tests on YouTube show this to be untrue. 8 gb is a huge bottleneck even on basic tasks. The ram handling claim is good marketing.

Definitely not worth the extra just for the cpu. It has 1080p vs 720p webcam and some extra video editing support built into the cpu but if those don't matter to you, keep your $150.

Always the same people defending apple's memory nonsense. Probably had the same mentality when apple was still shipping systems with 4GB of memory. "It's good enough for basic tasks" was parroted until when? 2017? 2018? Lmfao.

it's not about if 8gb is sufficient for specific use cases... to me, its about the specs for the price. this is slickdeals after all!

Does the earlier gen base M1 air has better performance than this because of the dual channel SSD?
What the hell do you need 3GB/sec of read/write for?

apple could have easily provided 32G RAM if not for sheer arrogance and marketing gimmick.

Considering their phone CPUs have 8 GB RAM, at this stage is an insult to the customer to sell a laptop with 8GB RAM.
These are great laptops for high school and most collage - doing homework and online assignments. Beyond that purpose they are useless.
