Last time they had the 64gb version from QVC it was on the old version of fireOS. I was able to use full fire toolbox. It's worth a try if you want a fire tablet with google. I think they came with 7.2.2.1

You aren't paying $30 for an 8gb tablet. In the past, this was true, but now companies are trying to push their high-end devices with 8gb. Haven't seen a device since the 2019 samsung tab with 8gb under $400. You might get lucky with a chinese brand, but then you have other worries.

Is there a noticeable difference in performance over the current 2023 model? I'm planning on setting the youtubes to 1440p (my preference) after getting the fire toolbox working

Isn't the screen only 1080p? What benefit will you get setting it to 1440p?

Either can handle 1440P coming from YouTube (it's not full bitrate, so it's not that taxing, even at 4K).

But you should note that there's not going to be a discernable difference over 1080P with these screens. Heck, even 720P from Hulu is passable at times.

The biggest impact will be faster battery drain.

If you're primarily going to output content to a TV, the $20 Onn media player is a much better option.

Not at the moment.


I have the 4GB version and while i had hopes that the extra ram would help, this thing is still slow. When I bought mine I was able to remove most of the Amazon bloatware to make it close to a stock Android tablet. This you can't do to the same extent anymore with the newer firmware. I've posted in other forums but these tablets are junk. Even for kids they are going to complain to you about it being slow. I notice issues running Youtube and trying to switch to just another app all of the time. There is a reason why these things are so cheap and they get progressively worse as the applications get even more bloatware.
