Everyone has different tastes and mindsets. That's what makes everyone unique. Your username is gears and beers. I rather spend $10 on a Funko Pop than beer. Because I don't drink beer. You may buy a 24 pack of beer and easily feel it's acceptable purchase while others don't.

I'm just saying this to make it make sense. 100 percent not trying to be rude or defensive.

Happy New Year!

Do you go into a lot of threads posting how much you don't understand? Or is it just Funkos that frost your cupcakes?

Despite what others say, I was like them until I bought my first (they finally released something that interested me) and I was shocked how good quality it was. We'll worth $5. Why do people put posters on their wall of the teams they like, do you undertand that? Why some people buy little statues of their favorite heroes....

At least these are cheap and they are very good quality. They took shortcuts with some of them, and they also made some crazy pointless landfill material but certain iconic ones are great.

I have *never* understood why people older than 5 pay for these. I get it, I sound like the diabetes guy in the soda thread, and I'll be downvoted to oblivion, but I just don't comprehend what makes someone say "I want this." What's more incomprehensible is the next person saying "that's cool that you have this." Why? They aren't cute, they're ugly as sin. So that's out. So what makes these collectible/desirable? It's wasted money on a piece of plastic that has absolutely no value, looks nothing like it's intended target (I've seen countless McDonald's toys that were intentionally simplified yet look more realistic), and does nothing but take up space.

I promise I'm not trolling. I've just tried for years to wrap my head around these and still can't fathom why they sell. Regardless, kudos to the manufacturer. They've turned something worthless into a massive, massive income stream. Since I actually can understand why a 5 year old could appreciate these, perhaps explain it to me like I'm 5? Maybe then I'll understand.
No different than collectors going bonkers over chibi style toys. I mostly only collect Stormtrooper Pops. I don't go paying outrageous prices though and I hate store exclusives.

I'm a geek and I love these. I'm not too rich so I can't afford proper figurines which cost a bunch. Instead I pick these up for $4-$7 when on sale and have a nice collection of my favorite franchises. I also like how a lot of them have some incredible detail for the price.

Alright, that's fair. Doesn't really offer a reason why, but offers comparison. It's something. No offense taken, glad someone understood I was being genuine asking why.

I've maybe asked that question in 4-5 threads ever. If I don't get something, I ask just like I did here. Where better to ask than a thread that attracts people interested in said thing?

I used to find it strange too. I'd see them in stores and thought a couple were kind of cute but I didn't get it. Most were things I wasn't interested in and they all looked similar to one another to me.

Then I ran across an Eddie/Iron Maiden one that I found cute/funny. I hesitated, it was cheap but wtf was I even going to do with it? Then I found Rob Halford, leather and all. That cracked me up so I had two. Long story short, I now have a strange assortment of them that I still don't know wtf to do with. They're current displayed with the china and have been a great conversation piece when people notice them.

Edit: Just thinking about reasons and a thought came to mind for me. Getting this kind reminds me of when I'd look at my new hilarious Garbage Pail Kid or the new KISS poster on my wall in the 80's. Could just be the kid buried deep down in the stressed out, "mature", grown up me.

Posters make sense, because usually they are licensed and look official and are actual images. Statues also usually are exact replicas, made to look like the real thing. I own a few myself *because* they look realistic and people can actually tell exactly what they are. These however don't look realistic in the slightest bit and I'm always looking at them guessing what it's supposed to be (intentionally without reading the box).
