Have this trickle charger and a few others, prefer the quick disconnect ones from cycle gear (They go on sale for a few more dollars than this). They have the same plug as battery tender (the one from cycle gear)
I have like 6 cars and 5 motorcycles now so I have my experience with trickle chargers ><
Link for the cycle gear one, of course its not on sale now though, but if you can wait , they go down to 10 dollars or so every now and then
Is this where you connect it to the battery the night before just in case the next day is so cold your battery might not start, so this gives a higher chance of starting?

Yes and mainly to keep cars that aren't powered for a while with a charge

Mainly for vehicles you don't use often it just maintains the battery for them.
Also if your battery died and you don't need it right away you can plug it to this instead of jumping it but it'll need at least over night to charge it up enough to crank.
Also if you buy a new battery that comes discharged you can connect it to this to charge it. (usually the ones where the need to fill the liquid yourself)

Did some research, forum talking about various users who have had electrical fires due to the inexpensive manufacturing. Just wanted to pass this along as I would hate to have anyone end up in a similar situation. Even if the chances are 1 in a million, I wont be chancing it.
Stay away from these harbor freight chargers, I've heard about more than one instance of them catching on fire. Just last year a friend had his garage and part of his house completely destroyed and they were lucky to make it out.

I don't think I'd trust a $10 battery charger from Harbor Freight and man those wires look thin.
I got these about a year ago to replace a couple I got from HF back in the early 2000's because the clamps were corroding, and I was surprised at how light these are. They are probably half the weight of the older ones and the wire do seem a bit thinner, but they work fine, I have garden tractor with a battery that is 9 years old this month and it still starts right up(started it last week in the cold). I credit it to these maintainers and being kept inside. I have had several different maintainers and most worked fine. Remember these are maintainers and not battery chargers. They won't charge a dead battery, only charge back or top off a battery that has dropped below around 12.6 volts.
I got this one on sale from Northern a few years back and it's been good on my older car's battery. It also has "High-frequency pulses safely remove sulfate from battery's plates that prevent the batteries from holding a full charge." It's $20 with free pickup from a Northern Tool store. https://www.northerntool.com/prod...7tc-167981

I don't understand what you mean unless you are just trolling by.

If the probe there easily fixable… It's just a wire… Or replaceable.
Most seem to be ok but I have had a couple the over voltage which is more of a problem when you have long term battery maintenance.
