I do have to wonder exactly how the "thermostatic" feature actually works - inline bimetallic elements? There is a front page Amazon review complaining about it (we haven't had that problem.) While 10W/13W/whatever is indeed not a lot of power, it does add up in an enclosed environment.
Yes I'm getting it to start seeds, and to bottom-heat cuttings (to induce rooting). Perfect for the patio where the warms/humidity is ideal.

Not for this size. Also this heats up to 102F max, most seeding mats I've seen don't get warm enough to help seeds/cuttings get started.
