I thought about grabbing this or the other HTIB but I have the feeling I'd want DA support sooner rather than later. I hear you'll be ready to upgrade from this type of HTIB setup rather quickly??

Might as well get a good soundbar with a bass module at this price/quality level. Check rtings.com reviews.

That's just incredibly silly. No soundbar can beat an actual 5.1 system, and this 5.1 is pretty decent

Lol. What you said might have been true 10 yrs ago, but apparently you haven't been keeping up with soundbar quality. The better ones ain't your daddy's soundbar 🤣

Get this highly rated 5.1.2 soundbar setup for 26% off right now!

VIZIO M-Series 5.1.2 Immersive Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Bluetooth, Wireless Subwoofer, Voice Assistant Compatible, Includes Remote Control - M512a-H6 https://a.co/d/94KNdmr

Rtings…"The Vizio M512a-H6 is great for mixed usage. It's a versatile 5.1.2 bar that stands out compared to other bars at its wallet-friendly price point. Plug it into your TV, and voices and lead instruments are clear right out of the box thanks to its balanced sound. The sub brings rumble in the bass to bring bass-heavy genres and action-packed scenes to life, and its satellites add to the immersive feeling with movies. "

Upfiring Dolby Atmos or DTS-X is so overrated.

Really bad advice on both points.

Upfiring Atmos may be a trendy innovation, but there are extreme diminishing returns after 5.1. The best addition to 5.1 is room treatment. Then a better subwoofer followed by a second subwoofer to solve the modal issues from a single subwoofer. Then front wide channels. Then Atmos or DTS-X. I can see the justification to want to start with towers like in the Jamo deal I'll post below, but if you desire small form factor, you don't have to outgrow this set for a long time. If you do, then it would work well in a bedroom.

There's lots of problems with upfiring Atmos. Your ceiling might be textured. You have an indefinite ceiling height that attempts to get solved through time delay, but doesn't fully work. I highly recommend you just get a reasonable 5.1 setup to start.

If you are starting from nothing, you could do way worse than just buying this. Everything I have ever tried from Yamaha has been amazing whether that was bass guitar, an outboard boat engine, a piano, or hearing the Lexus LFA exhaust. They have a very diverse team.

Nothing wrong with upfiring Atmos as long as your amp/receiver/bar has room correction. Which is likely nothing in this price range, but to blanket dismiss upfiring Atmos for all scenarios is silly.

We're all entitled to our opinions.
There's a well deserved stigma to "soundbars" brought on by garbage soundbars.
This Yamaha system is one step above a no name HTIB. Cheap drivers. Cheap cabinets. Bottom barrel electronics. The name brand is the only reason it was posted. Yamaha makes excellent soundbars, btw.
The particular soundbar system I recommended that is currently less expensive than this system has been independently tested and measured. It's every bit "as good" if not better than this system while at the same time being waaaaaay more efficient in the space it takes up 👍🏼
