While these say they are preseasoned, I still season them anyways after I receive them and so far have worked great, even for these made in China cast iron pans.

Soap and water wash first then dry, then I rub with some grapeseed oil all around it (don't put too much on)and put it in the oven at 450 degrees F for an hour and then cool. Repeat 3 or 4 more times.

Also cook something oily like bacon the first time really helps the seasoning process as well.

Even with Lodge, you should sand it down and reseason with grapeseed oil. Then you have a lifetime piece.

You can also use it regularly and build up a smooth patina, too. Sanding it down is faster, but the old fashioned way is nice, too.

Don't do it to yourself. I just sold my ozark trail set. The pan has a surface like sand paper. Lodge may not be the best, but it's better than OT

Depends how bad the surface is. I ended up sanding down all my pans because even regular use cannot fix some imperfections. The pans work even better now.

I have a Ozark trail set I bought years ago. .... Is there a way to improve the roughness of the iron ? Or is the answer "buy a lodge "

Step 1: Use often with greasy meat 🍖🥓
Step 2: Use metal spatulas always
Step 3: Profit 🤑🤑🤑

I'm only half kidding

Truth be told my Victorias (made in Colombia) are smoother new than any of my Lodge have been. My Ozark Trails def started off rougher, but many camp nights have them close to glass now.

I have never sanded down my Lodge CI, Its not necessary to sand theirs. Nothing sticks in my pans since mine have a few layers of seasoning. I have several of their pieces. I season with avocado oil.

Could you kindly provide a link to the lodge pan you own?

Got the 3 piece Ozark Trail set, 12", 10", 8", about 7-8 years ago, end of summer sale, for $6 total. I use them daily. Seasoned properly prior to first use. Never stick. Heat fairly evenly. Ultra light oil between uses. Reseason every year or two. I have no idea what people are looking for with all the other things they think they need to make cast iron work for them. I have lots of other iron, including many top tier. These come out first. They're just a bit lighter & easier to work with. You're not going to beat this 12" at $10.
