Is this one of the brands that have Chinese Spyware firmly built in?

Edit:
Yes- would probably stay as far away from this company as possible

tldr; a dodgy install of the chrome browser and some obscure hardware which forces you to obtain drivers from some dodgy places, should you choose to wipe the system.

I think it's fine as long as you're willing to do a fresh install of windows. Provided that you get the drivers from the seller, but sometimes Windows pick up the drivers themselves.

There isn't a computer company in the world I would trust... YOU ALWAYS do a clean wipe/install of the OS. Never trust anyone's 'defaults'.

Yeah the first thing I'd do would be to boot from a USB and do a fresh install.

I just grabbed a similar mini pc to use as a server, get BalenaEtcher -> Ubuntu -> Install and Overwrite

That's a new low, bios should never have these. It's suppose to be basic input output system! Since when is spyware a part of that? These hardwares should be free bc it comes advertisement infiltrating our private homes.

For those of you even talking about spyware, The Chinese, or any related consideration, etc .... your tinfoil hat is on too tight. If anyone here is paying attention, no one uses Windows 11 unless they are a vanilla consumer. You install Windows 10 on this, fresh install and, you enjoy it. If you think the Chinese needs your computer to steal secrets, you're, honestly, ignorant. This looks like a solid deal for a media server or for your kid to study with, or something along those lines. Windows 11 adoption rate is very low and for a lot of reasons. Again, fresh install of Windows 10, or, Windows Tiny 10 and you're off to the races.

The concern is that a cheap BMC exploit gets added to motherboards, and then there is a backdoor into your system that would now have access to everything since it's your server.

The Bloomberg story alleging motherboard hacks was published in 2018 and has still never been substantiated with any hard evidence. https://techbeacon.com/security/b...ll-not-die
