Good price, awesome sharpener. They do have a learning curve. It's easy to do damage when you don't know what your doing. Start with your cheap knives and get good before moving on to the good stuff. There are some aftermarket accessories to help reduce the learning curve tii
The Ken Onion Worksharp is an excellent tool for beginners and pros. If just starting out, start with some cheap beater knives first to get the hang of it.

Some tips:

- keep the speed slow
- stop the machine as the tip of the blade is about halfway across the belt to avoid burning or rounding the tip
- this works great for axes and cleavers
- I never had luck using this for scissors
- the rubber guides will wear out. You can reorder from Worksharp or go to your local hardware store and get a length of Pex and cut it to size. You'll have enough to last a lifetime.
- use masking tape on either side of the guides so that it doesn't scratch your knives. Replace the often.
I've heard it said that if you ever get lost in the woods, just start sharpening a knife and in no time, someone will show up telling you you're doing it wrong.

Weren't these like $80 before?

edit, looks like this is $140 everyday on Amazon

double edit, so this apparently comes with the grinder attachment frame that is $80 regular price everyday on Amazon.

I guess it's an okay deal if you want the extra stuff

That's without the additional attachment that the OP has though right? Seeing that is another $80 on Amazon (if it's the same one).

The tool alone went on sale for $80 in 2020 and made the front page.

In 2021, the tool made the front page twice at $105/$106. And the blade grinding attachment made the front page twice at $60 and $70.

So this current deal is a little bit better than the front page deals from 2021.

Depends on which of the two attachments you use, but it should be no more than a few minutes. Unless the blade has been horribly abused, you'll mainly stick with finer belts.

Work Sharp has some good demo/instructional videos on their youtube channel. But you'll typically want to move the blade across the belt at a rate 1 inch per second, and you're not going to do a large number of passes either.

I can do a 8" Chefs knife in about 5 minutes and most of that time is changing the sanding belts. I typically use the medium grit, fine and then I've ordered the stropping blade with wax compound, and I use that.

What my typical workflow is, is I take all my knives run them through the medium coarse belt. Swap the belt for the fine belt, run them all through that, and then the stropping belt. I can do all my kitchen knives in about a half hour.

Too fast if you are worried about speed. I'm actually serious, if you crank up the speed and apply too much pressure, the blade will get too hot and you risk losing the tempering.

It can give very good results, but take some finesse as things can happen fast. Practice on an older knife you do not care that much about. There's plenty of good videos on youtube demonstrating this system.

Is this better than using a sharpening stone? I've never sharpened knives before but I want to learn.
