FWIW, I'm an online teacher and sit at my desk at home a lot. I use an exercise ball (yoga ball), all by itself, (not in a platform), that's properly inflated. I also got a pool noodle from the Dollar Store and made that into a circle so it keeps the ball in place when I get up or sit down. I've used this for a few months now and I love it. It takes some getting used to for sure. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Just my experience. Smilie

But why?

What benefits does this confer that sitting on a $15 balance ball wouldn't?

When you roll back from the desk, you don't fall over. That's about it. A little extra height.

This would also keep my cat from stealing my chair in the middle of the day.

Maybe. But did the comments in the video convince you otherwise to get it after the video convinced you not to? Conflicting angles on both video and comments seems like it's half half

Not really. There seems to be more convincing arguments against having a ball holder. For example,

I think this chair is probably comfortable, but I'd rather have a ball by itself if I ever opt for this in my home office.

I have this exact ball chair at work. Used it for about 2 weeks and now it sits behind my chair and I sit on a very comfortable chair at work with wheels. I only sit on the ball chair once a month.

I had a ball chair for awhile. I actually did like it but went back to a good traditional desk chair. This thing just looks silly. I suggest buying an exercise ball first and making sure you like it before investing in wheels and a back to go with it but if you want to go all in right off the bat then I guess $40 isn't terrible.

I have used one of these chairs for about three years when I sit at my adjustable desk. I do not intend to go back to a regular chair. I find I sit better and more comfortably In this. I used a ball for a while, but to get to a regular height you have to have a large ball and they take up more space, and they roll around when you are not using it. I found this a surprisingly good alternative. I think a great purchase at 40 dollars.
