I am guessing Harvey is enforcing their patent or Jet is not willing to fight them. Similar like when SawStop forced Bosch to take down their version of safe table saw. Hurray patents - consumer always loses. Except today. For $30 worth a try.

Look at the reviews. Just ok for dust. Gets clogged with anything larger. Not a good product.

I've read reviews which say it cracks really easily too, like if your bucket or bin tips over, or if it's on wheels and bangs into something when you start up your dust collector and the suction pulls on your flex hose (or when it clogs).

patents will expire. as long as legislation doesn't change like copyright did then it's ok.

I should've looked. Oh well. For $30 there seems to be no competition. I am willing to give it a try.

Still 20 years seems like an awfully long time to pay $1000 dollars premium on a table saw.

I don't get blaming patents. Without intellectual property protections, we wouldn't have a lot of innovations we already take for granted, let alone future ones.

Disagree. With the exception of maybe semiconductors, pretty much anything can be reverse engineered and copied. Patent protection largely prevents this from happening.

yea, because patents require you to disclose how it works.
the whole point was to force you to share it.

even semiconductors can be reverse engineered and copied.
you think people would give up making new stuff if it's easily copied?

In many cases, yes. Most viable innovations come from research. Research is an investment, and investments are made for the prospect of a payoff.
