Panasonic make good phone sets I have several ( 4 ) hooked up to my Ooma phone system ( Only $6 a month in tax no other fees ) I don't use it much because of my cell phone.

Nah, voice was down on most copper lines during katrina, cell towers were up for many days but also no voice, as voice circuits were overloaded. Cell towers mostly had power both in Katrina AND in Sandy. During Katrina, sms txt and DATA still worked, could still post pictures via cell in katrina, and I had no issues using txt, even though there was no voice service / constant busy signals.

Some use cases for these:
Precise 911 address verification when calling

Little toddlers who do not really know how to use a cell phone or how to unlock it, but were taught how to use speed dial on the phone which is easier. My little ones can use speed dial if something happens to me at home.

You can get spam fatigue from your cell phone, I keep mine on vibrate most of the time, so I have my house number as primary contact for the school. So if my house rings, I know something is up and answer right away.

Same reason as above for certain government agencies, like the VA. If my house phone rings, I pick up right away.

So there are use case scenarios for landlines.

edit: dial 933 to check what address 911 has for the number you are calling from.

Typically you still have to give a "primary number" to schools and other orgs, so it can be handy for one (or more) cell phones to ring broadly across the house for anyone available to answer.

Or even for my wife and I before kids, we just liked the convenience of leaving a phone on a charger and getting calls wherever. That was before social media, mass texting, or people generally avoiding phones like we do now Wink

yep i use one for my gate. legacy landline connection even though pots isn't connected to the telco. I could easily upgrade it or just stick a doorbell cam there but tell the truth i doubt anyone is dropping by lottery winnings, packages know to leave, and friends know the code. Everyone else who gives a freak don't bother me and that prevents it unless i'm near the phones....too much 24x7 connectivity and i've been slowly dropping all that bs

not to mention backup phones for elderly in home peeps when their cell phone battery dies and they don't remember the cable. Lots of uses for these still.

i ripped mine out when i renovated over a decade and a half ago. i got an obi100 with wireless adapter to hook up to a sony basic corded phone for my mom since she didnt like cell phones.
