Yes, that's one of the reasons that I'm looking at installing this (with my already installed solar). Costs in CA triple in the evening (from $0.2/kWHr to $0.6/kWHr). There are some good videos that describe this exact scenario as well.
Thanks. Could you link to one you found? I must not be searching the right keywords on YouTube

How would you connect this to an existing solar setup? Does their smart panel act like the transfer panel to the house panel?

Good info in this one: https://youtu.be/JcKq6neGxXk?si=klztiudqBf1i_wJf. I think he talks about it about 3/4 in but a good view throughout

Yup.

That's the irony, these batteries and the manufacturing process plus lack of ability to fully recycle make these net negative on the environment, plus that doesn't include the power you use to recharge.

Combine that with the very inefficient inverter and you are just wasting more and more.

Same reason why most companies deploy just solar and not full battery on their sites, the net impact is horrid for batteries still unfortunatelyFrown

There are new technologies being investigated that will drastically improve the equation but they won't be in the consumer market for 5-10 years.

Best thing to do now is wait or grab a mini generator that you can use the 3-5x over the next few years you loose power and sell once the tech further matures end of decade then switch over
Lifepo4 batteries are leagues above other lithium chemistries. Use abundantly available materials and their lifespan is wildly long. Get out of here with your fear mongering.

Thanks. Below is an article doing some of the math for a powerwall 2 - granted it's from 2018. My peak/off peak differential is 4.5 cents so it sounds like it wouldn't make sense to me. Again, unless the IRA has changed the math drastically.

Same here.
Can't wait to see a year from now, to see what new/used units are going for!

Zach Nelson, aka Jerry Rig Everything, did a review on these. Watch the video for more details on the system, its very informative.

I guess I just don't know how much core home functions use, like if the can power my hvac and fridge, well pump, etc all at once or if I need a better for each then it's prohibitively expensive
You will drain this battery very rapidly running the havac, a stove, hot water heater, or a dryer. A drying using about 10 times normal house hold electrical consumption.

The average household use about 800kWr/month. I use about 576kWh/month = 19.4kWh/day.
The use case scenario is essential items (water pump, refrigerator, and some lights) during blackout.
A gas generator or a full solar system with a 10-15wh battery backup if you want to run everything without skipping a beat.
If you run your house like normal, AC, hot water, stove, etc you need about 40kw storage. 10-15 will be dead in just a few hours easy.

Something being completely missed in this discussion is how fast you can drain the batteries. There is a limited number of amps you can draw. If you try to run your whole house on one battery you will likely pop breakers. You need more batteries to increase the amount of electricity you can draw in a single instance.

I just use a nuclear powered reactor from a Typhoon class submarine that I bought at auction. It's a little cheaper than Eco flow but shaves some years off of your life. In the end, I think it's worth it.

If you are going to invest in a whole house battery back up you can get waaay more for less. For comparison, an eG4 100ah battery is $1.4k, that leaves you with enough $$$$ to get a real hybrid inverter and more batteries. Only downside of a proper backup is they are not very convenient to move to like this overpriced units.
