The 142 piece set looks a bit better IMO, with the added wrenches and metric sized sockets plus the universal joint pieces.
I still carry around my 25+ year old Craftsman set but this looks like it would be a nice replacement if I ever decided to update or get another set.

I'd bite on this, but I've still got a socket set I inherited back in 2003. Not sure what brand it is, but it hasn't failed me yet. But the first time I had a Craftsman socket blowout the sides was the last time I ever used a Craftsman socket. I learned true pain at the age of 19 and not a day goes by that it doesn't haunt me.

Don't worry about having every tool you ever need - just have the basic tools that will allow you to do 50-90% off any jobs you ever encounter when you need a tool.
BTW, friends, family, and neighbors can also fill in for when you don't have that unique tool - but if you EVER borrow a tool, make sure you don't do something to damage it (ex. use a friends ratchet to remove a lug nut and then stand on it for leverage) and make sure its as clean if not cleaner than when you rcvd it - and make sure to return it promptly - that will go a long way to you always having someone to turn for a needed tool.
Later on, you will come across deals for "ratchetting type" wrenches (Ex. GearWrench - Set up an alert). Those give you the benefit of a wrench and the ratchetting action of a socket set.
