I don't see how this is a deal. We've had 10GB network within the enterprise/datacenter space for over 12 years now. Today 100GB+ is not unusual. These network vendors need to get off their high horse and make some budget friendly 10GB & 2/5GB gear at a reasonable price.

MOST ISP for home use are just at 1g u/d. Those that do the 2 u/d give you one port where you have to use a moca to get the 2 (stupid frontier).... 1gig for home is more than enough for MUCH of the population from home. BUT, like everything else, 2/10gig home internet will be the new norm at some point with 32498572345837gig being enterprise commercial

It REALLY comes down to your use and need. Just using this post linked to the Amazon and the selections on the single page. I would prefer their $90 with the 2x SFP 10g ports and 4x 2.5g ports. Basically the same as the $152 one just a little more flexibility with the SFP - If that fits your use, as you'll incur a cost with whatever SFP unit need.... weeds get deep on what ifs and use/need.

There are other brands of this type of switch that are in the $50 to $80 range. I can't speak for their reliability or support, but functionally the same. In fact, they may come out of the same OEM factory. The Youtube channel ServeTheHome did a few comparisons and unboxing of these. Search his channel for 2.5gbit switch with 10gb"

I own this specific switch ​as well as its identical twin, the QNAP QSW-2104.

Why do I have two? Because the TRENDnet sucked, and would freeze up, locking up all traffic. I bought the QNAP, foolishly thinking it would do better. Nope. They run similar (but not the same!) firmware. Hardware is identical, which I found out later and only by taking them apart.

I went round and and around with QNAP over this, and ultimately given a refund. The TRENDnet is still in a box somewhere.

I replaced it with the much more expensive TRENDnet TEG-S750, which has one less port, but they are all 1/2.5/5/10G ports. This one is a different architecture, and has been more consistent, albeit not perfect.

Are the 2.5 ports fully backwards compatible with 10/100/1000 or only partially backwards compatible with 100/1000?

Windows 95 isn't dead. mIRC, Heretic, Myth the Fallen Lords, Windows Personal Web Server, Encarta 95, etc..., while not daily driven, are still relevant.

Wake me up when I can get a 48-port 2.5G unmanaged switch for $150. Google Fiber offering 5 and 8 gigabit in my area but nobody can use it with these hardware prices.

2.5Gbe SMB multichannel is more than fast enough for normal home users, 10Gbe is overkill and waste of money for most of those people.

Not for another 5 years I'd say unfortunately. Unmanaged 24 port these days are still going for $150+ for brands like Ubiquiti and that's used market. I just want a ubiquiti 2.5gb 16 port switch and an 4 port POE and Non-POE 2.5gb switch.

I bought 2 of these. One had a bad 10gig port. One a bad 2.5. out of a brand new box. Look at reviews and these have bad ports or ones that go bad just months in to usage.

I returned and got the ideantical qnap versions. Worked out of box and now 8 months later still working great without even a single power cycle.

Yes it's more but are you really saving money if what you buy doesn't even work fully or breaks soon after?

And btw, the 10gig port is awesome. Not for Internet but if you have other computers on the network with nvme drives, you can share files at crazy speed.

Noticable difference in speed between my PC and my Unraid server between the 2.5 gig and 10gig ports using a 10gig PCI cards on each.

I thought Cat6 cable typically maxes out at 1Gbps throughput. If this is correct, then how is having a 10GB port useful? Someone enlighten me please Smilie
