If it makes you feel better, I got mine today and had the exact same issue. 1 screw on both pickups were not screwed in. I can hear the springs rattling in the chamber. I guess the guy who does that was not at work that day. It did not have a tag either. Beyond that, everything was in great condition. I don't think it was a return based on the condition of the box/packing, nothing seemed "redone" or anything like that. It plays great and sounds great. I'll be keeping it as long as it's a simple repair... Hopefully no issues with the pickup bracket that caused the screw to come out. Good luck!

Did you have any issues with the POTs? My bottom pickup kept cutting out until I opened the back and looked at the wiring. Tried to separate out the wiring and touched the solider point for bottom volume and the pickup worked again

That's interesting. I didn't have any issues with the electronics, just those pickup screws. I was able to resolve that today. Hopefully it'll be an easy thing to figure out.

Maybe. When I open new product there's a specific care in which the manufacturer takes in packaging it. Just like when I open a box I receive from Amazon, I check to see if the cardboard it's packed in has "tension" or if it's loose. Loose board indicates previously opened. Other indicators are tape. Does it look like tape was cut or put in a different place? Then returned. I'd send that crap back immediately. Never put it past a company to repackage something and send it out knowing the crap shoot of someone just eating it.
I've heard somewhere that Adorama does open guitar boxes before shipping for basic inspection. so tape on the box is almost always cut off and put in different place. It definitely was the case with one of the guitars received from Adorama last year, I didn't check tape on another one received from them.

Why would they remove the QC tags? Too keep a record of it in case someone tries to return a guitar?

They wouldn't do it, unless they forgot to put it back. One of the Gretsch guitars received from Adorama had a missing a screw on truss rod cover, but all tags were in place. Maybe it was a return, but everything else was fine with it, I decided to keep it.

Anyone else order and have issues? Is Sam Ash related in some way to Adorama (since comments mention both)? I ordered from Adorama with no issues.

not related. My comments about Adorama started as a response to a comment that re-taped guitar box is an indication of a return, and I've pointed that it may indicate pre-shipping inspection or even setup if seller does it, mentioning Adorama as I've received guitars in re-taped box from them.
