The i7 model with a higher refresh rate display had been around the $1900 and lower for a couple of times around BF and CM.
Asking around $500 more for a lower spec'd display and slightly powerful processor is absurd.

With a 4090?

Edit: Found it, at least what I think you were referring to. That was a great deal at the time - hard to find a 4090 < $2k.

During BF ir CM, you'll always find some good reduction in price but that does not mean any deals posted after that, not matching BF or CM, are bad. In that case people have to wait till the next Holiday event.
Regarding the Processor, it is not slightly better, it is a lot better. In fact, it has 8 more E Cores than the i7 model and in multi-threaded benchmarks it performs well above it. Still may not be a $500 better, but again, that was BF and CM deals.

Too much for an HP Omen (the worst performer among 4080/4090 laptops). This is Legion price territory.

Any proof or review link for that? All the reviews, including Notebookcheck.net tells the exact opposite story. I think you just made those point up, without actually knowing.

From the link you shared:

"Cons
- slightly below-average performance for a RTX 4080"

"As an alternative, you could take a look at the Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H, which is able to get a higher performance from the same CPU/GPU combination. In addition, it scores with brighter display in the 16:10 format."

Sorry but the HP OMEN is not a good deal at this price. The superior Lenovo Legion has been cheaper than this.

Legion Pro 7i is one of the best performing gaming laptops and there is no doubt about that. It even beats some of the 18" gaming laptops from MSI, Asus and Dell. But performing slightly lesser than the best, does that mean it is one of the lowest performing laptop? May be you wanna check what did you say in your actual post.
