Considering these are still going for over $2,000 on most websites, I figured this is a good deal.

Can I connect this as a external GPU? What would I need for that?

For a laptop? I'm sure you would hit several unexpected bottlenecks along the way that would limit how much you're getting out of it. That being said they make external GPU enclosures but they don't really make a lot of sense and are super situational.

No for a desktop. Is there any way to add this as an external GPU to a desktop computer? (and externally powered). That way, I am hoping to avoid worrying about having to add or increase space, cooling and power inside my existing desktop computer.

I suppose no such EGPU exists that can deliver 8-16 PCIe lanes that the 4090 uses.

Have this card, love the performance! Very quiet, no coil whine. It's def big and heavy, recommend using the support bracket or buy a support brace.

This was 1699 last month when in stock..wonder if gigabyte increased prices or best buy did?

Fwiw, had this card and it worked flawless, completely silent 99% of time, never went above 60 degrees and was just about plug and play.

Tired of all the ripping apart 4090s. Yes it's expensive. It's the new age we live in, for now. Business will always exploit demand. At least, unlike iPhones or Galaxy Ultra, you are truly getting a tool that can make you money, in the right field. Compared to an overpriced phone, I can do the same things in a $300 phone vs a $1500 phone - now that deserves all the hate.

Get a new case for $100 and move everything from your old build into it. If you have a mid-range power supply, you're going to want to upgrade to one with a dedicated 650W power cable specifically for cards like this. Don't risk melting cables with a flimsy power adapter that draws power from 3-4 PCIe power cables.

I don't know of an eGPU enclosure that can fit a 4090. Some 3080s will fit in an enclosure, but only certain models.
