Ok, as a father of a child with ADHD, I would've jumped right into it, but the term ADD doesn't exist since 1987/DSM-III. I'm one of few still believing in science (at least here in Florida) and I'd rather be guided by my little one's doctor and therapist 🤷 .
Good deal though, but isn't that with all old books…

Which one of these non-Amazon stores has the easiest DRM to break? I am getting away from tying my stuff in Amazon's ecosystem and I think Kindle books after Jan 1 2023 changed to a different format to not allow old Kindle for PC versions to download and use DeDRM to remove it.

Dr. Gabor Maté is a schill and a hack. If Joe Rogan is your source of truth, this book is for you.
So Joe Rogan supported Bernie Sanders, guess that was an early tell.

Seconded. His writings are junk science and don't hold up to peer review. He's obsessed with the idea that ADHD is due to epigenetic triggers and his takes aren't much different than some New Age book misusing the idea of quantum mechanics to justify some woo woo bs. Which isn't to say that some cases of inattention may not be due to childhood trauma, as he likes to argue, but he has some tunnel vision on the topic in addition to misrepresenting a field he has no expertise in. Watch some of the guy's YouTube videos, he's definitely trying to make a persuasive argument based on his own biases rather than presenting objective, peer-reviewed and tested data. Best avoided, in my opinion.

If you like his theories and takes, more power to the reader but don't let the doctor in front of his name fool you that he's an actual expert in the field. He's writing for a popular audience but no one is citing his work or building on it.

There really isn't precisely a thing called "ADD" in reality nor is The Common Cold a specific illness that can be pinpointed. If I said I couldn't jump, and you couldn't jump, and "Bob" couldn't jump would you assume all three of us have injured ankles or that Bob has no legs, I am too fat, and the third person is too lazy?

Firstly, no idea why some people are mentioning ADHD - if you have ADHD you likely have NOTHING in common with many of us with ADD as ADHD is mainly a chemical issue that is often preventable and easily correctable and ADD is generally caused by actual brain deformation/damage. To entirely different things but all the ADHD ppl failed to pay attention long enough to differentiate.. I have known MANY ADHD fools and ADD draws NO PARALLEL. ADHD is more of a choice not to pay attention and focus, ADD you actually don't necessarily have the brain mechanism to do so! That is a wildly different symptom! Please do not compare the two or lump them together! 99% they have nothing in common.

As a person with the SYMPTOM called ADD the actual illness that causes mine is an overgrowth of a cerebrospinalfluid filled cystern in the skull. This caused an impact on Cerrebellum size and in order to have proper motor control and such my brain needs to "borrow" processing power from the parts that otherwise could be used for Social brain function. (Social and critical though cannot occur simultaneously it has been found through fMRI)

So while one person pretends it is their disease I am sitting here with it being the symptom of mine, a mild one compared to the PAIN and mobility issues from the actual brain deformation (Dandy Walker Syndrome, ie: CNS Cyst)

That is NOT to say that it isn't a REAL SYMPTOM, it just is not itself a disease. Much like Depression, depression is NOT an emotional state or an illness, it is a composite state of being. You are generally down and out in general, suffered recent major or successive losses, have eaten poorly (this is generally the key, especially in suicide there is ALWAYS L-Tryptophan deficiency in the diet...or at least absorption of it to make Serotonin).

If you read a book like this PLEASE take it with an open mind. If your lawn is covered in leaves you do not have a Leaf Infestation Disease - you simply own Trees, and they do that. Do not view SYMPTOMS as the actual DISEASE if your Doctor cannot think of WHY the condition is present then it likely is a symptom and not the root cause. You will stay sick till the day you die if you view these buzzword "illnesses" (which are really symptoms of greater systemic issues) as true illnesses rather than doing the REAL HARD WORK of discovering how mammalian health actually works. (It is super simple, we are barely harder to maintain than plants)

Bear in mind, most causes of ADD cannot be "healed" - it may be possible to breed the underlying cause out after 2 generations or more but in many cases it's not a thing that can be cured.

I think that the current view of ADD/ADHD is potentially causing some issues with the "science" of "correcting" it. If we look at history and what has changed we see in the 1970s a bunch of sketchy chemical preservative, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc became commonplace because they could not get/keep fresh food at the market well enough. ....and then a lot changed. Surley there are additional things since those years like plastics that have become more prevalent... but it makes the most sense to look at a plant, or a human and see it's defects and think "Well, what did I put into this, garbage in, garbage out, right?" and face the fact that we are building our own disease through mistreatment of our flesh.

Never mentioned in "correcting" ADD/ADHD is simply adapting your environment and lifestyle to the way your brain functions. Do you see a dog trying to dance? No, a dog cannot dance so it does not try. Humans think we are all the same and different at the same time, which makes no sense - none two of us are equal. We need to adapt to our inequalities and accept that they are OK and live our lives according to them harmoniously.

He has some excellent and insightful views on current events.

What good are views on current events when people still aren't intelligent enough 80-100 years later to comprehend historic events like World Wars and their impacts on the world, mindset, etc? Heck, CURRENT world events are STILL being lead by the World Wars, there is an ongoing issue with Israel (it was stolen land in the 1940s and isn't an actual country) and NO CURRENT VIEW has anything to do with the historic issue coming to light. Same with Ukraine, that is a 100 year old issue and NEW VIEWPOINTS are actually the entire problem.

We want to say Person A is "right" based on current perspectives when if you actually knew your history the opposite viewpoint would clearly be "correct". That is the problem with opinions, they don't necessarily respect the actual data points that are there.

I purchased it and am removing the DRM so I can move it without having to stay in an ecosystem or have an account. If I wanted to pirate it, I wouldn't have purchased it to begin with.

PS - Used Kobo Store since it's a lot more open after some research.
