Apple uses an SOC (system a on a chip) the ram is on the same chip package as the processor, not on the motherboard like other builders..this means the the acess speed to the ram is exponentially faster than normal PC ram. Most importantly apple controls the entire hardware and software stack. So the OS is incredibly optimized for the hardware. They are literally built for each other. So a PC that may need 16gb of RAM to do a task will only need 8 or less on a Mac.
Same reason iPhones is 4gb of 6gb of RAM while flagship android uses 12 and 16gb.
That being said. 256gb SSD and 8gb or ram WILL limit you with large photo or video tasks. So even though it's a pro. Know it has limits.
You are gaining, fans for cooling vs fan less on the Air, slightly better performance on long running multithreaded tasks.
Be aware the 256 model has only one SSD chip not 2 like the 512gb and above so your SSD speed will be in the 2500Mbs vs 5000ish Mbs. for everyday tasks even light photo and video editing work it will work fine.
Called a Costco in the Seattle area. Was told item was deleted from the system and no inventory in the area.
8Gb … in the year of 2024.

Wait! Wait! So, the 8GB M3 Macbooks are equivalent to PCs with 24GB RAM? Wow! Amazing.

I still wouldn't recommend a MacBook Pro 13 M1/M2 at any price as the Air is better. The M2 MacBook Air usually on sale for $899 is better than the 13" MacBook Pro. It is not like you're buying the 14" MacBook Pro with the Pro chipset. The 13" MacBook Pro uses the older chassis and components. It's the same chipset as the Air but the Air M2 is newer, better screen, no touchbar, MagSafe charger, slimmer and lighter.
There's nothing Pro about the 13" that's why Apple killed it when spec for spec, the Air is better.
How is the Air better? Touchbar is divisive but I find it more useful than not, and active cooling is actually majorly important if you are doing anything more intensive than standard browsing. I would hard disagree with you on the better screen, I looked at both in store and the notch on the Air killed it for me, and the Air being newer isn't relevant because like you said, they use the same processors.

IMO they are more sidegrades than anything else. Air is a tiny bit lighter, plus magsafe charging. Pro has active cooling, and the touchbar. At equal prices it really comes down to a matter of preference.

I disagree. They are more of sidegrades than anything. Air being newer doesnt mean anything since they are on the same chipset.

Air Positives:
Slightly smaller / lighter
Magsafe
Slightly larger, albeit notched, display

Pro Positives:
Active Cooling
Touchbar(I find it more useful than not, though I understand it is somewhat divisive. )
No notch(This might be a me-thing, but I absolutely hate the way the Air notch looks).

Touchbar, and notch can be debated and so is the active cooling as the performance is negatable on the M1 SOC.

Now here are all the reason why the M2 air is better:
M2 Air is on a newer chasis which is optimized for the Apple SOC.
Bigger screen (I too don't like the notch) and better screen to body ratio
1080p webcam vs 720p
Liquid Retina Display vs IPS (I'm guess they're the same and is just Apple's Marketing BS)
Bluetooth 5.3 vs 5.0
4-speaker array vs 2-speaker
Magsafe charging (free up the USB/TB port)
Lighter and thinner.

To almost 99% of Mac users, the Air is better in everyday task and usability compared to the 13" Pro. There will be the exception of the 1% that want the fan or the touchbar (god knows why). But for everyone else the Air is a better MacBook. And for those Pro users, they know the 14" or the 16" Pro models is the route with the Mx-Pro or Mx-Max SOC. There's no question there.

This is a lie the 8GB of ram is still 8GB of ram it is not comparable to 16GB on a pc this has been debunked by several prominent YouTubers that deal with Mac's

We have many of the air m2 models deployed in the office. Most of the normal users are hardly scratching the full use of the 8 GB. Almost everything is hosted online, so you won't have problems doing your basic needs. now if you run CAD programs you might want to go up tp the 16gb, you can code in this machine just fine. There is nothing this machine won't be able to do for the usual high-functioning office admin worker/college student.

This is a good summary, though I still think this is a decent deal for the M2 MBP.

I have a 13" M2 Air and find the screen to be better than the 13" MBP/M1 MBA screen, the webcam is a HUGE upgrade if you use it at all, and oh how I've missed MagSafe! Easy choice for me to choose the M2 Air but it's all personal preference.

I have a work issued M2 14" MBP (luckily I could choose what I wanted) and I still really enjoy my M2 Air at home. It's plenty fast and super light.

Is it worth getting M1 Air 8gb, 256Gb for $750 or this deal for $799?

So the consensus is not enough RAM? I'm assuming you cannot upgrade the RAM on these? My local store has 3 in stock and we need one to replace our 2011. The RAM and HD storage may not meet our needs however.
Even MacWorld magazine, who loves Apple, slams them for 8GB RAM models in late 2023:
https://www.macworld.com/article/...mance.html

The people who say 8GB is fine for basic users miss several important points:
  1. Software gets bigger over time, so you'll need more memory (and storage) in another couple years.
  2. Apple charges an exorbitant rate for more RAM.
  3. Although $800 for entry level isn't exactly extravagant, the BASE 14" MacBook Pro M3 still comes with 8GB RAM for $1599. This is utterly shameful.

Those who claim 8GB Macs are as memory efficient as 16GB Windows PCs simply don't understand how computers work.

Finally, the 13" MBP should have been discontinued a long time ago. It's an outdated design and was never "PRO" to begin with. Apple kept it around because it was cheap to manufacture, but please don't buy a brand new one in 2024.

Bought two at CostCo in Colorado Springs on Powers. They said they had 5 in stock. If anyone in the area wants one.
